Yikes.
We now return turn our regularly scheduled bashing of Jonathan Cooper--because there's no way I want to think about these stats for another moment.
Lindley holds the NFL record for most passing attempts without a touchdown, at 181. He has thrown more than 20 passes in a game four times, and had at least one interception in each of those games. In the game he won as a starting quarterback, the Cardinals scored three offensive touchdowns. All of those drives started inside the opposing 30, and the Cardinals did not attempt a pass on any of them. On the whole, his 2012 season is one of the worst in recent NFL history. It came in a dismal situation, but he was worse than Kevin Kolb and John Skelton, neither of whom has attempted a regular season pass since then.
The key question for Lindley is how much he has improved since then. It is difficult to say. His performance against the Rams in the small sample size was unimpressive. It was one of just four games this season where a quarterback attempted double-digit passes and did not average more than 3.0 yards per attempt. Even against a solid St. Louis pass defense, that is a poor performance. His DVOA for the game of -50.7% was in line with the -55.8% DVOA he had in 2012.
