Yucky yuck, yuck yuck yuck. Oh man, why they have to go and do these movies like this. Part of the movie (original) was about being way away from the city life. They go to a carshow/dance off all hip hop style? Weak wick whack all the way around on this and I my biggest fear is my kid liking it!

Okay. Just watched the trailer. Same. Freaking. Dialogue. Almost verbatim. And, a lot of the scenes are exactly the same as well.

Only difference is the sexier dancing and the more diverse crowd.

I am old ... and proud of it, lol!

I don't mind so much a remake with a different spin ... in some cases; however, this is SOOOO much the same. Same solo dance in the factory. Same got-pulled-over scene with the cop flipped dude's chin with the driver's license. Same t-shirt worn by the slutty girl at the town meeting. Just so many things THE EXACT SAME THING.

What's the point?

Eh.. I guess Im of the mind that if its the same movie in theory, I could care less how much of it is different.. I wanna see something orginal..

And about the super hero movies.. I cant wait to get into my twilight years and talk about all the great movies I saw to grandkids.. All the classics like: a guy with claws or a guy that can fly in an IRON suit! Its gonna sound so great coming from an old man.. CANT WAIT!

I just realized I have never seen the original Footloose. I might want to see that first before I attempt the second one.

I was a junior in high school when the original came out. Awesome '80s flick. I can't imagine why this re-make was done. It's not like it has a built in audience the way a Pirates or Transformers movie does. No one who was young when the original came out is going to see the new one.

I'm guessing that it will be as successful as Grease 2.

Footloose

Footloose (remake)

Release Date: October 14, 2011
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Director: Craig Brewer
Screenwriter: Dean Pitchford, Craig Brewer
Genre: Musical
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for some teen drug and alcohol use, sexual content, violence and language)
Website: Footloosemovie.com

Starring: Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Andie MacDowell, Dennis Quaid, Miles Teller

Plot Summary: Writer/director Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow," "Black Snake Moan") delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, "Footloose." Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

The guy in that poster sure looks like a cool rider.

Kenny W is a real life dancer. But he also has showed some acting skills. As there really isn't much dancing in the film. But still, I see him and Julianne hopefully getting more roles in the near future, not just with dancing as she is a real life dancer too. As the original is the original. Love the remake though.

Well said. This was the exact same same film, but without the heart that the original had. Horrible casting for Ariel. The original Ariel had a naughty sex appeal about her. This girl was just cute. The casting for Ren was even worse. The only thing I liked about this film was the car.

If they ever do this to Vision Quest, I'm done watching movies!

so the other day I watched the remake and in true streaming style at the end they suggested the original as my next view...so I did... back to back.

The script is nearly identical. The biggest change was the bus race replacing tractor chicken.

But I prefer the original... Myles Teller carries the remake IMO.... he is slightly better in the role than Chris Penn was...and Julianne Hough is way hotter than Lori Singer was...but thats about it.

Footloose is a dance movie...and while I openly hate musicals I really like dance movies. When it comes to Ren,...its obvious Bacon is passionate about dance whereas the new guy,...well, he just dances...Bacon played the role better in every way...and the chemistry between him and John Lithgow jumps off the screen.. the "rebellious teen" versus the "unyielding conservative adult" is palpable.
They are both worth watching. But if you are planning to sit down and watch Footloose, you may as well plan to watch the original. There is a reason its a classic..... and its not because the movie is carried by a supporting actor.
