The Vikings are in the playoffs with Christian Ponder at QB. The QB excuse is wearing a bit thin.

I'm thinking Peterson has something to do with that.

Admittedly though Whiz was the coach when we made that pick.

Cardinals made the right choice...lets hope they pick the right guy for the GM and HeadCoaching job. One side of the ball could be very very good next year but they have to get it done on both sides of the ball. Thanks for punting the Whizzer...he was no Offensive Guru....never was. Great job Bidwills!!

IMO, this is going to be the Suns all over again. Considering the history of this franchise, it actually could be even worse.

Fire one of the most successful coaches in franchise history.

Promote subordinates of said coach.

Be shocked when subordinates are not as successful as the person you originally put in place above them.

Spend the next few years in low level mediocrity. Fans become increasingly ambivalent and long for the "good old days".

Watch face of franchise star go play for hated rival.

Except in the Suns case the coach was replaced with someone outside the team who was horrible and the subordinate that eventually took over advanced just as far as the original coach with arguably less talent.

Honestly if Horton turns out to be the Cards version of Gentry I'd be very happy with the move.

No complaining when the report comes out that the Cards short list for the new HC comes down to a battle of Todd Haley, Mike Sherman, Jim Caldwell, Mack Brown, and Jim Tressel. Because that's what we'll be looking at for Whiz's replacement. Go Cards.

It is already being confirmed. You are right.

There will be no high end coach.

This offense ranked 32nd in ypg this year. The 31st ranked offense gained 500 more yards than we did. It's not going to take a genius to improve our biggest weakness.

LOL.. mediocrity? Mediocrity would be an improvement for this team for the last 3 years.

You forgot the part where his replacement took the team to the Western Conference Finals and then had the team lose it's top two scoring threats who've never been adequately replaced. Hence the mediocrity. And unlike the Cardinals, I don't think the HC of the Suns is the one doing the cooking AND the grocery shopping.

Whiz made his bed for 3 years, eventually he had to lay in it. If he would have relinquished control of the roster and brought in a new OC I would have been fine with him staying. He may have had that option and turned it down or maybe his fate was sealed regardless. Time might tell. And we've been longing for the "gold old days" for 3 straight seasons. At least if we do worse we will be bad enough to get a top 3 pick and maybe turn the franchise around with a real QB. It'll be hard to do worse than the 3 year train-wreck we've called an offense and I guarantee you I won't be longing for those good old days.

Speak for yourself. I'll take 3 crappy years as long as my HC can win consecutive divisional titles, an NFC Championship Game, and a SB berth. No future Cardinal HC will EVER do that again.

BWAAHAHAHA! Ever? Again what make you so sure. Not only am I sure the Cardinals will get to another Super Bowl, but guess what? They will probably win one or two of them.

Inconsistency breeds mediocrity. On the QB level it has killed us since Warner left. This franchise has been killed by it with all the upheavals of coaching staffs through the years. Being a coach for this ownership is not a level playing field. The only coach I feel can make be believe we have a chance is Andy Reid now. To coach the Cardinals, you have to be very stubborn because you have to fight the stupidity of the front office often because your options are never allowed to move in a smooth environment. Reid has won in the past and has a harden interior by coaching in Philly and the family tragedies he has endured. Whis had that cold demeanor. I pray we land Reid. And maybe the environment of coaching for this organization had taken its toll on Whis, and he became less of a coach because of it and had to be let go. We need a tough SOB, to expect any success and he better not be an over emotional guy. To coach the Cardinals and succeed, you have to have a sniper mentality LOL

Really?? Other than the one Whiz took us to, had we ever sniffed one before? Maybe I should say that UNDER BIDWILL OWNERSHIP, we will never see another SB. This franchise has NEVER made consecutive solid HC hires in their HISTORY. Call me when we get to one! If I'm still alive, I'll buy you a ticket & we'll go together:)

For those of you who wanted Whiz retained, why would you want to retain what has become a cancer on the team. How can you not see that unless Whiz changes how he deals with players, he is bound to fail as an NFL HC. Even Kent Somers is on radio today saying that this is what Whiz became here. K-9, Shane, and others who have lambasted me for the past three years need to get a clue. Whiz stayed out of the defense, and Horton did in two years what Whiz could not accomplish in 6. Horton found what his coaches and players were strong at, and developed a scheme that incorporated what the players 'could do'. Whiz simply tried to fit his players into his scheme, a plan that simply seldom works. It doesn't take a genius to see which tact is successful.

Absolutely, positively would NOT have. The Bidwill's showed no spine & caved to a relatively young & ignorant fan base. They have NO leverage without a QB to lure a decent replacement now. Especially with the crappy reputation that this franchise is so deserving of. What self-respecting legitimate coach wants to come to an Organization that just fired their winningest coach who took them to the only SB that they've ever sniffed?? I know I wouldn't. The Bidwills f----- up again! I'm too old to go through this crap again. This move today will set this franchise back at least a decade, probably more.

Your credibility just went down the tubes. Keeping a coach forever (never firing) makes no sense. Even Tom Landry and Chuck Noll got fired...

they did not fire Landry after his first horrid seasons in the beginning, be it was a new franchise or not, 5 straight horrible records and he did not win till his 7th season. The Cowboys knew something the fickle did not. It does not mean Whis did not have to be fired, but I hope Michael makes a good choice and has some patience with the new guy regardless of the masses who are not exactly a smart brain trust.
