Not exactly a fair analogy. Whiz has never had a dynamic athlete like RG3. You really don't know what Whiz could do with a stud like RG3. Let's not gorget that Shanahan failed miserably with EVERY QB he every had whose name wasn't Elway. Don't all of a sudden make Shanahan out to be a genius developing a gameplan for RG3. Cowherd was discussing earlier that Shanahan dumbed down his offense to 2 simple reads for RG3. That as opposed to Luck, who had 5 reads. The key to the Skins this year was Morris. Now, I'll give Shanahan credit for the running scheme, because that's always been his forte.

Ahh.

The "Jake Plummer excuse".

So, all Whiz needs is a elite QB ? What else? A good offensive line ? Better WRs? Better GM? Better RBs? Better OC?

If he is a good coach then why does he need so many things done for him before he suceeds?

A very fair question. I firmly believe that multiple injuries on the offensive side of the ball completely derailed what could have been a playoff season. I would give Whisenhunt the benefit of the doubt based on how they finished strong last year & where they were heading this year before the injuries made it impossible for the offense to do anything. I would have given Whiz one more year and not given him ANY EXCUSES next year. None. That being said, I defintely wanted Grimm & Miller gone THIS year. We'll never know, but Whiz probably nixed that option, which resulted in his firing. If he truly did nix that option, then I'm fine with what went down. I could not stand another year of Russ Grimm!

Tough situation to debate. To say the offense would have been better if healthy is HIGHLY debatable. Yet again the team didn't need much from the offense to be a playoff team.

I dunno. Saying Levi Brown, Lyle Senlien or Jeremy Bridges was our salvation is a tough sell.

If Whiz is so good then why does he lose so much?

Fair question. He loses because while he's a good coach, he's a terrible talent evaluator. Mike Holmgren went through the same problem when he escaped to Seattle to get out from under Ron Wolf, only to struggle until he gave up personnel authority again. Andy Reid ran of Joe Banner and suddenly lost the Midas touch.

I've never watched a Cards game where I felt that the team was strategically overmatched or overwhelmed on offense. The team always seemed prepared and be trying.

What I think happened is that Whis had three strikes that put him away. Cutting Leinart for Max Hall was the first. Vouching for Kevin Kolb was the second. And taking Ryan Williams instead of a rush linebacker was likely the third (or choosing to start Skelton then Kolb then Skelton then Lindley then Skelton then Lindley then Hoyer).

I think that eventually the bad decisions became so numerous that the good decisions seemed distant.

What I will say is that the Cards suffered from bad luck and a tough schedule. One of the hardest schedules in the NFL, and we ended up with a string of tough injuries that compounded the singularity that we were starting under center.

What I'm going to guess happened is that Michael Bidwill asked Whis to fire Grimm and Miller, and Whis said that they're both good coaches that were saddled with poor talent, and refused to do so. The end.

While that might explain some of 2012 but 1-11? And what about the 3-15 run from 2010 through game 7 of 2011?

From the last regular season game of 2008 to game 5 of 2010 the Cards were 18-10 with 4 playoff wins. Then they went 3-15. Then 11-2 and then 1-11. Whisenhunt deserved to be fired just for doing that to us. :D
