I didn't think it was THAT big of an issue, and still don't know why the situation hasn't gone away after Dockett apologized. I dunno.

We don't know the details, and probably never will.

That is a trickier situation than it sounds, since I am of the same opinion of Darnell Dockett. We are both completely wrong, and I am well aware of that, but the situation could be handled better all the way around.

Yes, Dockett has to listen to his coaches.

The coaches need to instill some sort of fairness and reasoning behind there strategy. And don't tell me letting the Jets score and giving the ball back to Ryan Lindley is going to win that game, there is NO way that would have happened.

Dockett should have taken himself out of the game, and/or the coaches should have talked about this situation WAY WAY before the situation ever came up in a game.

Frickin' team is turning into a circus. We wouldn't have these problems if our front office could put together a NFL offense like a bunch of professionals.

We ever going to see a fan favorite leave under good terms ? Or do the Bidwills, and company just crap on everything ?

I'd swear we were trying to loose (coach) where is his fine for leaving Lindley in the game? That was a blatant violation of the common sense rule

The thing is until we know exactly what happened we dont know how fair the fine is. The article says he went well over the top maybe he threatened coaches and players ...we dont know so we probably shouldnt judge one way or another

It gave the team it's best chance to tie IMO, regardless of the QB mess. Unless we had the " new miracle at the meadowlands". ;)

DD should've done exactly what his coaches ordered him to do, no ifs ands or buts!!!

In the end, he did. How did that work out?

Obeying a coach's directive is not optional.

You do it or there are consequences to be seen by all.

If DD had said that he hadn't heard the call or acted instinctively, there wouldn't be an issue.

No... in his own words, he admits that he defied the order.

Also, let's keep in mind that what's important is what the team thinks and feels about DD's treatment, not the fans.

I am trying not to judge the situation.

But, I sure as heck am judging the head coach, and the front office on the overall piece of ......."work"........ they have supplied this year.

I do think that DD was wrong by not accepting the directive and causing problems. I just think that it is a little questionable of a call because they could get a first down. We were depending on the Jets to not be thinking.

Agreed.

Not saying he is right, just saying that I personally understand what Dockett is saying. If I were on the team, then there would be two players receiving a fine. One player for not letting the team score, and one player for taking himself out of the game in that situation (the latter being me).

And again, to be clear as the day is long, I would be 100%, no bones about it, WRONG.

EDIT: I should clarify, that with me, it would have ended with taking myself out of the game. The tirade in the locker room is in-excusable. It happens but it is not something that I would ever do.

Right. After he had divulged the plan on the previous play.
Was the order to let them score before the first down or after? Honest question, not trying to be argumentative. Either way, we were depending on the Jets to not think.

Like I said. DD was wrong to cause the problem.

Look... I love DD... but, I also recognize him as a tempermental man-child.

Like a child, I expect he'll rage for a time and simmer down.

His football nature is to play hard and rough, and as soon as he makes a big play and the coaches pat him on the back, it will be largely done as an issue. (IMO)

Maybe he's just overly frustrated with this team. Several very bad seasons, 2 good ones, and several more bad. He tasted glory. He wants to get back there.

On the play before Green went down at the one yard line, it was obvious that everybody but DD was stepping aside to allow the score.

You play to win, always! Laying down on defense, so that the other team can score faster, so you can get the ball back doesn't qualify as "playing to win" in my book.

You stand up for your convictions, accept the discipline of your coaching staff, and move on.

On a side note, I see the word "spat" at lot on reports of the Rhodes/Dockett tussle used in the context of "a brief quarrel", not as the past tense of "to spit". Am I missing something?

Who cares. If its that important to him he would have learned to throw a football :)

Here's my take:

The NFLPA will step in and the fine will be reduced. Don't think $200k is merited.

Dockett was in the wrong. No question. He was given an order and defied it with no remorse or care. He was insubordinate, and in any other workplace would have been terminated.

Dockett will get over it. May take the rest of the season, but this will blow over. He's pissed and rightfully so. Let him bitch and moan like a petulant child on Twitter for the next week or so.

If he's traded, he'll be missed. He's the cornerstone of one of the best d lines in the NFL. But we can get value for him if this is how it ends (which I believe won't be the case).

The strategy of letting the other team score at that point was just plain dumb. The game was already lost. Reality says there was no way we were going to get 8 points with the time that was left! Not the way that offense was playing.
If Whiz had wanted to win the game, he should have made better decisions way before the last few seconds of the game.
The FO had to do something to Dockett, but I still think he got hosed on this one! JMO.

I don't think the plan was just plain dumb. We had zero chance to get the ball back if he didn't score. Regardless, you cannot disobey a coach, period. If it was a lesser player than Dockett he would be cut today.

You do not fail to carry out the call. It is no different than free lancing on the field and not covering your gap or doing your job. I love DD, just purchased his jersey and all, he's still wrong.

Maybe it's me, but it seems a bit creepy having fans show up at a player's home.
