I think I can say I am truly disappointed in Suns management and don’t have any feeling of hope for the future. When the year started, I had high expectations and thought that the Suns were going to prove to be one of the truly up and coming teams in the league. Instead, they disappoint and I come to the realization that they weren’t as good as I expected, but figured with another season under the belt, a new coach, and a late lottery pick that maybe they could turn it around for next year because Marbury, Marion, and Amare playing together for another season could only help.
Then they trade Marbury. I didn’t like the trade, but I could live with it because it gave the team two first round picks, a couple of prospects and some salary flexibility for the future.
Then we get this atrocity of a trade today. I think everyone on the forum knew this was coming, however, we did not realize that it would be nearly as bad as it was. I expected Googs, the future Knicks’ pick, and cash for Keon Clark which, while I didn’t like it, I could live with it because I could understand that management could save somewhere between 12-18 million IF the luxury tax was enacted. However, by trading two picks they have almost killed any flexibility for dealing with Charlotte over the summer and made themselves looking no better than trying to pocket more money for themselves.
This is the first time I’ve felt like management was more concerned with saving money than doing what was best for the team. I hope that this trade was just a huge mistake and they’ll show in the off-season that they want to win. Unfortunately, I fear they will strike out on Kobe and then not spend anything else and claim they are saving it for the future because they need it for other reasons.
