Former LSU football offensive lineman Will Clapp is heading back to the boot after singing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent on Thursday.
Clapp was selected by the Saints in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After four seasons with his hometown team, he spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and moved to the Buffalo Bills last season.
The New Orleans, LA native started 11 games for the Chargers in 2023 and saw action in one game for the Bills in 2024. In need of depth on the offensive line, the Saints signing Clapp means they get a well-rounded player who can play anywhere along the interior, from guard to center.
Clapp followed his father, Tommy, in committing to LSU as the latter played defensive tackle for the Tigers from 1984-87. Clapp was rated a four-star offensive lineman by multiple recruiting outlets and made an immediate impact under former head coach Ed Orgeron.
In his rookie season, Clapp earned All-SEC Freshman and Freshman All-American honors. The following two seasons, he was named a First Team All-SEC player. As a junior, Clapp was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top center. He blocked for three 1,000-yard rushers in Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice.
