When Cotie McMahon decided to enter the transfer portal and leave Ohio State, most felt she would land with a perennial power such as LSU, South Carolina, or even the 2025 champion UConn Huskies. However, McMahon announced today that she has committed to Ole Miss.
McMahon was visibly frustrated with how the season ended. Not just the loss to Tennesee in the round of 32, but the way the regular season ended as well as the Big Ten Tournament. When things weren't going the Buckeye's way, the tension was easy to see.
Still, Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Rebs are getting an excellent basketball player. McMahon helped lead the Buckeyes to the Elite Eight in 2023 while being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging 15.1 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds. This year she would lead the team in scoring 16.5 points per game and earning All-American Honorable Mention.
Coach Yo is building quite a team in Oxford with McMahon being the fifth addition via the portal. The team finished the 2024-2025 season at 22-11 after reaching the Sweet 16 where they would bow out to Final Four participant UCLA. The Rebels finished around the middle of the pack in a loaded SEC where Texas, South Carolina, and LSU will be expected to lead the way once again. Maybe the former Buckeye can help turn the tide and give Ole Miss the firepower it needs to get over the hump.
