Wow, this is horrible if true:

Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator for the Penn State football team once viewed as a favorite to succeed Joe Paterno as head coach, has been charged with sexually abusing eight boys, and the university’s athletic director and another university official were charged with perjury and failure to report after an investigation into the allegations.
Allegedly Paterno knew about one of the incidents as well, which he reported to the AD but did not report to police.

EDIT: Forgot the link http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/s...at-penn-state-is-charged-with-abuse.html?_r=1

If the old man and the AD kept this one in house, that may be one of the worst incidents of in house cover up ever. These events were of a criminal nature and a cover up should result in charges and or dismissal. Lack of institutional control on steroids could only describe this event, if true.

BTW, has ESPN's Behind the Lines covered this one?

This story is truly sickening. The guy sets up a program for at risk kids then assaults those very same kids? Just horrific stuff happens in this world. True evil.

Seriously messed up. Will ESPN give this full blown coverage like they gave to the Michael Vick dog fighting stuff?

The VP and AD are arrested as they should be and should be fired pending a review.
The president of the university should either resign or be fired
JoePa should immediately be forced to resign or fired
The graduate student who witnessed the attack should be forced to resign or fired if he's still with PSU
If guilty Sandusky should spend the rest of his life in prison and be mixed in with the general population.

This is absolutely disgusting and a lot of people need to lose their job and go to prison for this. Jim Tressel is forced out because he knew of football players getting tattoos under questionable circumstances and didn't report it. Joe Paterno knew one of his assistants had a very inappropriate encounter with a child and didn't report it to authorities and keeps his job. Unbelievable. As for the grad student how could you witness something like that and not intervene or go to the police?

I heard on ESPN this morning that the grad student is now an assistant coach and their recruiting coordinator.

Is everything

Wow, why in the world is his laptop in the river? This Penn St story is incredibly unsettling on so many levels. Things are spiraling out of control very quickly in Happy Valley. Paterno is toast and the game this Saturday will be a complete circus. The way things are going, I wouldn't even be surprised to see Penn St forfeit the game to try to get their house in order.

How does a D.A. simply disappear?? They find his car and his laptop, but no actual body??
Only when you consider just how much $$ the program generates for the institution, does this begin to make any type of sense...
I have zero doubt that this D.A. had serious evidence that would have seriously taken down Paterno, the program and the University. And I have zero doubt that the University - with JoePa's full knowledge, had this D.A. "taken care of".... This is truly sickening and by far the single worst tragedy to ever hit the NCAA...

Sandusky's 1986 Champioship ring is for sale on eBay. According to Deadspin:
"The starting price is one dollar, but the seller tells Deadspin he's looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of ten thousand dollars."

"I've been thinking about selling it for a year, and I thought, hell, I could use the money. The timing is right."
Disgusting. More proof that a lot of people put profit over human beings.

I think it's more likely some booster was involved than the actual university.

But you never know.

Scary story guy literally sees a 10 year old kid essentially getting raped and does nothing to stop it. Then reports it to Paterno and he does nothing.

Fox29 in Philly is now reporting the number of victims has doubled to almost 20. I think this is only the beginning and I have a feeling Paterno knew a lot more a lot earlier. Sandusky was so brazen and open about it and has founded this foundation in 1977. No way did the abuse just start in 1992 IMO.

Oh, sure.. a booster could have been involved and probably was. Probably more than just one booster. However, I have zero doubt that Paterno and the University had knowledge of the hit.

Regarding the DA who went missing, he investigated and prosecuted a lot of cases so there's a lot of people out there with no connection to Penn St that could have wanted him gone. So it's hard to jump to the conclusion that Penn St, or anyone involved, put a hit on the guy. But, with this situation and how it just keeps getting worse, you can't really rule it out either. Of course his body was never found so maybe they paid him to disappear and he's off living the good life somewhere.

Students show support for Joe Paterno

This disgusts me even further, which I didn't think was possible, given the depravity of this crime and its ensuing cover up including aiding and abetting a serial sexual predator predator pedophile. I would have to engage any son or daughter of mine,in a discussion, about the nature of the situation, were they one of these students.

BTW, Mr. Joseph Paterno is going to say a prayer for the victims. That ought to remedy everything.

Students show support for Joe Paterno

Bennett By Brian Bennett

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Stefano DiPietro first heard about the rally on Facebook around 2 p.m. Fellow Penn State students were heading to Joe Paterno's house at dusk to show support for the coach when he returned from practice.

Students demonstrated their support of Joe Paterno outside of his house Tuesday night.

"From there, I just tried to relay it to as many people as possible on text, Facebook, Twitter, whatever," said DiPietro, an 18-year-old freshman. "None of us want to see Joe leave. We all love Joe."

The love was evident as several hundred students crowded around Paterno's house, located just a couple of blocks from campus. Chants of "We are Penn State!" and "Joe Paterno!" filled an otherwise quiet, darkened street.

The 84-year-old coach looked happier than any senior citizen ever to have kids trample his lawn. He exited the passenger side of a white university van to thank the students in his driveway. A few minutes after that, he opened his front window to say a few more words as the crowd surged forward to hear him. And just when everybody was about to disperse some 30 minutes later, a grinning Paterno walked out the front door to address the students one more time.

"I can't tell you how much this means to me," he said. "I've lived for this place. I've lived for people like you guys and girls."

After the rally at Paterno's house, a portion of the crowd went to stand guard by his statue at Beaver Stadium before marching to Old Main, the school's administration building. Students walked onto College Avenue before being moved off the street by police in riot gear, and they reassembled at Old Main as their numbers swelled into the thousands......

sickening display by Penn Staters who obviously value football wins above the lives of kids.

I just read the grand jury's report on this and it makes me sick. I can't even describe how upsetting it is to read it. I had to skim over some of the details of the actual incidents because I just couldn't take it. Then reading all the names of people who witnessed it or knew about it and did nothing, it really makes me want to cry, and I'm not an emotional person.

EDIT: Here's the link to the grand jury's report. Like I said it's disturbing and it gets into some graphic detail. http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploadedFiles/Press/Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdf
