Former Penn State football running back Miles Sanders is onto his third NFL franchise. After being released from the Carolina Panthers earlier this week, Sanders is joining the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The 27-year-old Sanders spent two seasons with Carolina and now returns to the NFC East after he spent the first four years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fowler reported Thursday evening that Sanders agreed to a one-year deal with Dallas, with the financial terms undisclosed. The Cowboys need help at the running back position after Rico Dowdle signed with the Panthers to replace Sanders as Chuba Hubbard's backup. Sanders joins Javonte Williams, another free-agent signing, as the top two running backs in Dallas' backfield.
Sanders owns 5,589 yards from scrimmage and 27 total touchdowns across six NFL seasons. On the current Cowboys roster, Sanders will team up with Micah Parsons and Amani Oruwariye as former Nittany Lions.
As a Nittany Lion, Sanders backed up his now NFC East foe and Eagles running back Saquon Barkley for two seasons before taking over the lead job in 2018. That season, he rushed for 1,274 yards and eight touchdowns before entering the NFL draft as the Eagles' second-round pick in 2019.
