Aaliyah Guyton is coming home to Illinois.

The former Peoria High all-stater is joining the Illinois women's basketball team following her freshman season at Iowa. Initially, Guyton choose the Hawkeyes over Pittsburgh and a group of Big Ten Conference finalists that included Illinois.

Now, the 5-foot-7 guard heads to Champaign with three years of eligibility.

"I chose Illinois because of the strong sense of community, the incredible growth opportunities, and the chance to be part of something meaningful alongside an amazing team and staff," Guyton said in a statement. "I'm truly grateful to coach (Shauna) Green for recruiting me again; it really speaks to the belief she has in me. I'm excited to get started and be a part of the FamILLy!"

Guyton, the 2023 Journal Star player of the year, missed the first five games of Iowa's season, rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in December 2023. In averaging 4.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and appearing in 29 games, Guyton ended up being a top reserve for Iowa, which finished 23-11 before a loss in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.

She made one start and averaged 16 minutes a game.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have Aaliyah join our family," Green said in a statement. "We have known Aaliyah and her family for years. We know the type of person, worker, and player that she is. Aaliyah brings Big Ten experience to us and the ability to lead our team at the point guard position. She can score at all three levels, and she is an elite defender, which is critical in our system. I cannot wait to get Aaliyah to campus!"
