Former Texas Longhornswide receiver Matthew Golden met with the Detroit Lions over the weekend, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. The meeting comes as the Lions, reigning NFC North champions, look to bolster their offensive arsenal ahead of next week’s NFL Draft.

Golden spent two seasons at the University of Houston before transferring to Texas for the 2024 season. In his lone year with the Longhorns, he hauled in 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns, showcasing his explosive playmaking ability. In his first two collegiate seasons at Houston, Golden notched 76 catches for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns. He helped the Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff semi-finals.

NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler noted that Golden doesn't have any flaws to his game, and stands out as a favorable pick for most. At 5 foot 11, Golden doesn't have the ideal size, but his route running and impressive 4.29 40-yard dash served him well.

"Overall, it might bother some teams that he doesn’t have better size, but Golden also doesn’t have any glaring flaws to his game that would keep him from becoming a productive pro," Brugler wrote. "He can play inside or outside and become the go-to target for an NFL offense."

His draft stock rose significantly after he recorded an impressive 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis earlier this year.
