Matt Stevens spent parts of three seasons with the Washington Redskins in the late 1990s. After Washington, Stevens landed with the New England Patriots, where he was a part of Tom Brady's first Super Bowl championship team in 2001.

Stevens, 51, died recently at his home in North Carolina.

A third-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 1996 NFL draft, he spent one season there before landing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. He stayed with the Eagles in 1997, but was released midway through the 1998 season and signed by Washington. During his time with the Redskins, Stevens appeared in 33 games, making five starts, recording 87 tackles and seven interceptions. Stevens had six interceptions for the Redskins in 1999.

The Houston Texans later selected him in the 2002 expansion draft, where he spent his final two NFL seasons. For his career, Stevens finished with 108 games played, including 42 starts, 301 tackles and 13 career interceptions. Overall, Stevens played for five teams in a total of eight NFL seasons.
