This is a completely rudderless organization right now.

Last season, the D-Backs went a lamentable 51-111, and they navigated the off-season as though they were readying themselves for contention. What they've done is take on roughly $100 million in long-term salary obligations for what should amount to an inspiring charge for 70 wins. This team has no business undertaking anything other than a fully embraced rebuilding job. Instead, they're positioning themselves as the D-Rays v2.0.

Does this seem fair? I mean, I think the organization knows fans won't take another 100 loss season and keep buying tickets. What are they supposed to do?

Funny how people attack their spending when the Diamondbacks have a payroll considerably less than last year, yet a vastly improved team. With a decent core of guys, and an excellent farm system that will only get better with Drew and 5 picks in the first 3 rounds next year, Id rather be in the Diamondbacks position than a lot of teams.

The author might have been critical of the way in which the DBacks spent their money and not the fact that they spent it. Big money on Glaus and Green who aren't exactly Cal Ripken when it comes to satying int he lineup everyday. And let's not forget the Russ Ortiz signing helping to inflate mediocre pitcher's salaries the rest of the offseason. These moves raised plenty of eyebrows around the league.

And let's also not forget people around baseball do not like the DBacks. They were pissed off about us spending our way into a World Series even in the face of huge debt. Now they think we're doing the same thing again. Personally I don't mind the moves, I think we did enough to be decent and keep butts in the seats but there is some substance to this person's criticism of this offseason.

Well it's not exactly easy to convince a player to come to a team that went 51-111 the previous year.
