FOX Sports reports Dave McGinnis will be fired next week. John Czarnecki writes that McGinnis has informed his friends of his fate and that he has made plans to take over as the DC for the Vikings for next year.

Maybe

If this is true maybe we'll know something before or after tomorrow's game.

I'm more interested in Skkorp's info about McCown....he knows what Graves plans concerning Josh are or at least Graves has told him how he feels about McCown...is he the second coming or a second helping?

The QB info will let us know if Big Ben or Eli are in the plans or not.

If this is true he's headed back to the black and blue.

Duh, anybody asked Bradshaw or JJ recently, they assured us Mac was staying.

Should this prove correct, I wish Mac all the best there. You couldn't want to met a nicer guy.

I could live with either Green or Fassel but prefer Fassel. I respect what he did here as O cord.

If he has already made plans to take over as DC for Minny, then he must have been informed of it awhile back. Makes you wander if there will be tampering charges filed against the Vikes.

If it comes down to Green or Fassell, I think Green will be the choice. It is a minority hiring and will put the Cards in the good graces of the NFL. The payback would be a spot in the Super Bowl rotation. Green is good, but his coaching staff is gone. He also had a major personality conflict with Red Combs, the Viking owner. A real power play struggle. The brotherhood of owners might hurt Dennis on this one. At least Fassell can bring a legitimate coaching staff with him. Both have offensive philosophies. I think lousy assistants was the downfall of MacGinnis. Not being a head coach and getting named late, he put together a ragtag staff of borderline assistants.

My criteria for a new head coach, is an offense mind with a good staff to bring on board. If the Cards pick some assistant or college coach, it could be a repeat of the last regime.

P.S. An excerpt from a Jan , 2002 article in the Austin Chronicle.

" Every season for nine years, Green's merry band will lead the league in DWIs, rape charges, running over citizens, clubhouse fights, drug violations of all sorts, barroom brawls, and bad drafts. But the best thing Green does, from Mack's point of view, is he wins. So every time a Viking (or Dennis himself) is pulled over on a snowy Minnesota highway after a few too many pops in the clubhouse, the media will cry for a change at the top, and a Texas coach (a friend of Red's!) will get another nice raise. But -- this is the really cool part -- Green will win just enough to keep his job, thus maintaining status quo. Everybody's happy."

Green vs. Fassel

Both of them are somewhat in the category of "they were fired but they don't suck'".

I like Fassel because of the O Rowland mentioned......also like him because he may bring one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL in McNally with him. We sure do need better production from that overhyped line and McNally can do it by kickin the underachievers in the butt...and if they still don't produce he can put together some overachievers who can.

I'm not sure why I like Green....but something tells me he would attract some quality free agents....we made a decent start in the direction last year.....but I think if Green would have been our coach we would have collected a few more FA's.

Guess we'll hear more about this today. Head area rolling all over the league. Should be interesting to see who is where once the dust settles.

NIce guys make bad coaches, I guess. :D

Epimenedes the Cretan said: "All Cretans are liars." Is Epimenedes a liar? If Epimenedes the Cretan is telling the truth, then all Cretans are not liars, and Epimenedes is lying, which is a contradiction. If Epimenedes is lying, then not all Cretans are liars, so the statement he made is true. A better formulation of the paradox was given by Eubulides: "This statement is false". Godel brought Epimenedes to bear on Principia Mathematica by translating the Liar paradox into a theorem to say "This theorem is not provable."

Nice Guys

I guess it depends on your definition of "nice guy" and how that transfers to the football field.....and are you talking about their football personna or their off the field personna?

Woody Hayes was not a nice guy on the football field....lost his job when a Clemson dude intercepted a pass from Art Schlichter and Woody punched the guy because he taunted Woody in front of his players.....but he won games.....off the field he helped those in need.....was a great husband and father.....and didn't punch anybody.

Mac seemed to have fiery speeches....but you need to be Bill Parcells like.....if a guy isn't producing you can his arse......you work their butts off and you be a real prick like Woody was.....but you win games.

Nothing earns the respect of players more than winning.

I'm not sure Fassel or Green are as fiery as Mac.....but I think they won't hesitate to jettison guys who don't produce.

Whomever our HC, there are deficiencies in the way we do business that need correcting:

1. Inadequate Game Prep - Seldom if ever this past season did I get the feeling that our players (a) knew what to expect, (b) had answers and (c) felt confident they could get the job done.

One reason for our 0 & 8 road record, in my opinion, was that our players weren't prepared to cope with crowd noise (which, in turn resulted in false start penalties, delay of game penalties, unecessary time outs and lack of explosion off the ball). I've often wondered whether Jeff Blake's relatively quiet voice couldn't be heard barking signals above the din.

2. Lack of Player Development - We've been killed by the pattern of bringing in promising youngsters who don't improve enough, get let go and then star for other teams. (Simeon, Jake, Corey to name 3). Adrian Wilson should be further along than he is. So, too should be guys like Levar Fisher and (in terms of his potential) Leonard Davis. Will our 1b draft pick, Calvin Pace realize his full potential and emerge as a dominating sack artist?

3. Underachievement by the O-Line - Blame it on concentration lapses. Blame it on poor blocking schemes. Or undeveloped techniques. Or tipping off plays. Or lack of "wanna." Whatever the reason, these guys were supposed to be dominant. And this year, you can't really blame it all on injuries.

One question we may wish to ask ourselves is: Would you rather have a HC whose strength is that he can get a team with fair talent to "play hard?" Or would you rather have a HC who, in addition to other qualities, demands soundness in the way the game is played and does what's necessary to see to it that this is achieved?

Whether are HC is Dennis Green, Jim Fassell (or if we're totally surprised and McGinnis stays), he'll have to fix the broken parts of the wagon.

AT least are new head coach will have the comfort of knowing he has Gilmore and Rakers locked up for another year ,not much more he could ask for.

It's just another example of a sarcastic, juvenile, one liner, that shows the insight of a rock, and...that would appear more a demonstratoin of trying to be cluelessly "cute", than anything.

We've never heard the bonus totals on those two deals. I believe the bonuses are so low, those guys could be cut and we actually gain cap room.

At least, that's what I hope.

You've got to realize that saying anything bad about Gilmore is sacrilege in Tango's world, regardless of what the guy does on the field.
