Plot Summary: Based on true events, "Foxcatcher" tells the dark and fascinating story of the unlikely and ultimately tragic relationship between an eccentric multi-millionaire and two champion wrestlers.

When Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is invited by wealthy heir John du Pont (Steve Carell) to move on to the du Pont estate and help form a team to train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics at his new state-of-the-art training facility, Schultz jumps at the opportunity, hoping to focus on his training and finally step out of the shadow of his revered brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo). Driven by hidden needs, du Pont sees backing Schultz's bid for Gold and the chance to "coach" a world-class wrestling team as an opportunity to gain the elusive respect of his peers and, more importantly, his disapproving mother (Vanessa Redgrave).

Flattered by the attention and entranced by du Pont's majestic world, Mark comes to see his benefactor as a father figure and grows increasingly dependent on him for approval. Though initially supportive, du Pont's mercurial personality turns and he begins to lure Mark into an unhealthy lifestyle that threatens to undermine his training. Soon du Pont's erratic behavior and cruel psychological game-play begin to erode the athlete's already shaky self-esteem. Meanwhile du Pont becomes fixated on Dave, who exudes the confidence both he and Mark lack, knowing that these are things even his money cannot buy. Fueled by du Pont's increasing paranoia and alienation from the brothers, the trio is propelled towards a tragedy no one could have foreseen.

"Foxcatcher" is a rich and moving story of brotherly love, misguided loyalty and the corruption and emotional bankruptcy that can accompany great power and wealth. As with Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller's previous feature films,"Capote" and "Moneyball," he explores large themes in society through his complex character portraits of real people.

Warner Bros. Apologizes for Negative ‘Foxcatcher’ Tweet, Fires Consultant

http://variety.com/2015/film/news/w...foxcatcher-tweet-fires-consultant-1201391959/

Warner Bros. has apologized to Sony Pictures over a derogatory message about Sony’s “Foxcatcher” on a Twitter account, created by a consultant working for WB.

Warner Bros. has also fired the unidentified consultant.

The Twitter account “WB Digital” tweeted on Friday about Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz criticizing “Foxcatcher” director Bennett Miller over how Schultz was portrayed in the film. Channing Tatum portrays Mark Schultz and Mark Ruffalo portrays his brother Dave Schultz.

Warner Bros. first responded Saturday by asking Twitter to suspend the account, asserting that it was an imposter account but later found that the account was created by an outside consultant doing promotional work for the studio.

“The retweet was posted as a general entertainment story, but posting anything that can be seen as a negative comment about one of our competitors is totally unacceptable and contrary to our operating policies,” the studio said in a statement. “As Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, said earlier today: ‘Warner Bros. simply does not do business that way.’ The suspended Twitter account will not be reactivated and the consultant is no longer in our employ. We apologize to our friends at Sony.”

Is it me or does Schultz seem unstable? I get that he doesn't want his reputation sullied but something tells me there is more to this. First he praises the film and blasts it. From another article I read he had no problems with the film until he found out he was not given consultant credit for the film.

Something tells me this isn't some simple issue of a sullied reputation.

This is a big part of it.

Mark Schultz blasts director of 'Foxcatcher' over depiction of 'sexual relationship' in film

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/01/mar...over-depiction-of-sexual-relationship-in-film

“I never looked up to duPont as a mentor, leader, father figure. He was a lot dirtier the first time I met him and he was drunk.”

“The personalities and relationships between the characters in the film are primarily fiction and somewhat insulting. Leaving the audience with a feeling that somehow there could have been a sexual relationship between duPont and I is a sickening and insulting lie.

“I told Bennett Miller to cut that scene out and he said it was to give the audience the feeling that duPont was encroaching on your privacy and personal space. I wasn’t explicit so I didn’t have a problem with it. Then after reading 3 or 4 reviews interpreting it sexually, and jeopardizing my legacy, they need to have a press conference to clear the air, or I will.”
