Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Carolina Panthers have signed free agent TE Freddie Jones (Cardinals). Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

I really dont get it. Depending on the price of course but isnt the Panthers a smash mouth type team.

If the right price and they only use him for passing situations then maybe its a good move.

But its good for us as the Panthers were said to be looking hard at the TE's in the draft, maybe one falls to us in the 3rd now.

My choice is Joel Dreessen TE Colorado State in the 3rd round.

Thank god! I can't stand his Freddie TV! The guy rounds out his routes and can't sustain a block if his life depends on it.

Freddie Jones will help the Phanters' offense because they need a TE that can catch the ball to assist WRs Steve Smith and Ricky Phroel, now that Muhammad has left for Chicago.

What always irked me about FJ was the fact that he would allow the littlest of DB's to tackle him. His YAC was awful. He would catch a ball in the flat with nothing between him and the first down but a 5'9 180lb CB and inevitably he would come up short....

Plus he couldn't block a lick!


All the tools in the world but too damn lazy to use them. Good Riddance!

Yeah, this is what I never got. When we signed him as a FA, I thought that he was the second-best TE in the league after Gonzales, but he never really panned out. I don't know if he just never bought into the program, or what, but it was a pretty large mistake signing.

He went down way too easy for a guy his size. Another mystery.
