This is important for the Cards as they may get 4 comp picks next year. QB Blaine Gabbert could bee on their list since they met with him and worked him out last Thursday.

Juza was probably implying that we gave up a pick this year expecting picks next year (which is a questionable strategy to me personally, if we were to end up having a bad season and giving up a high fourth rounder, but our potentially second third could work essentially as an early 4th).

I sure hope Baker turns out to be a player. I'm still disappointed we "threw in" the extra 4th rounder from next year in the trade up. It always seems when the Cardinal's go into a draft with a certain mindset they don't adapt (i.e. they said beforehand that they were expecting a bunch of comp picks next year, so they planned on using them to trade up). It seems this trade could have been made for just the #45/#119/#197 picks this year. This trade gave me flash backs of the Alan Branch pick.
A few picks later the Vikings moved up from #48 to #41 for only a 4th rounder this year.

+1, on the Baker comment, and Alan Branch comment (that was a spirit breaker for me with Branch, thought he was going to be so good!).

EDIT: whoa, since first posted, they've edited out a bunch of troll comments. I HATE PFT's comment editing - many comments never get posted, but this is the first time I've seen them pull a bunch after the fact. And besides, they were quite entertaining.

I don't know if the Cardinals made the right decision to go after Baker but if they really wanted him, it's hard to fault them. They will get extra comp picks next season to help pick up the slack.

Guys... they got a BETTER 4th rounder (than what they originally had) by moving down in the 3rd, which they used to select Dorian Johnson. I don't understand all of the teeth gnashing. The 7th they got with Baker was parlayed to move back up into the 6th to draft Ford. Net I believe they only lost next year's 4th rounder in order to move up for Budda, which they get back another 4th next year as comp for Jefferson. So they'll still have a 4th in next year's draft. Great maneuvering if you ask me!

I love the Baker pick and have no issue with us giving up what we did to take him. I think far to often we've waited and the guys we had targeted were taken ahead of us. I love the tape on this kid. He's the Badger with some Earl Thomas mixed in, going to be a fan favorite from day one. My favorite pick in the draft this year.

Being able to draft Reddick and Baker was a coup. Reddick was in the top 5 on the Cardinals' board and Baker was in their top 20. Thanks to a deep draft in safeties and teams taking QBs way earlier than warranted, Baker slid a little. Once the Cardinals traded up and took Baker there was quite a run on safeties (5 in the next 25 picks of the 2nd round).

While the Cardinals did not draft or reach for a QB, the fast that others did so earlier than expected helped the Cardinals draft at the top of their draft board with each pick.

If a team can trade up to get a player that fits into their system for a fourth round pick is just trade bait. Think about it. If Baker winds up being a gem no one will care about a fourth rd pick. If he doesn't turn out to be a gem still no one will press too hard on a fourth rd pick with all of our picks next year. It's a no brainier.
