I'm sure we'll analyze the Laker series to death over the next few days and there is a thread on draft picks. However, I think there might be at least some consideration given to free agents even though I can't see the Suns spending much.

As it is right now, the Suns have four free agent roster spots: Burke, Marks, Jumaine Jones, and Jalen Rose. It is conceivable that all four will be gone next year although I think the Suns will try to keep Burke.

With that in mind, I thought it might be useful to look at who will be free agents and who might be available cheap.

You got the millions and millions to pay for them, because the Suns sure don't.

It wasn't serious, although it would have been nice.

The Suns could use Blake, Milicic, Kapono, Nocioni the most, in that order. I know that there is no room to sign any FA, and I seriously doubt that they will use their MLE either.

Walton is unrestricted? Isn't he just finishing up his rookie contract?

Edit: Never mind, he was a second-round pick. Another success story. He's sort of like the anti-Mike Dunleavy.

I'm mostly interested in guys who might play for near minimum contracts, although a full MLE for Stackhouse would be worth it just for the damage it would do to the Mavs. ;)

Stackhouse on the Suns. What you say is correct, but that would be difficult to get used to.

The way Stackhouse has played he will get more then a MLE. Some team will sign him to decent contract. If not, he would just stay with Dallas.

True. I'm not saying it will happen, just that it would be worth the luxury tax if could.

If the Suns spend any money at all, it will be to fill the gaping hole they have at SF. They need somebody who can defend a wide range of players, knock down the three reliably, run, and also has enough scoring skills to attack mismatches.

Nocioni seems obvious, and so does MoPete. Sasha Pavlovic is intriguing, mainly because he might wind up on the other side of a Marcus Banks trade. I'm not convinced that Matt Barnes is a legitimate 3pt threat, but he's another player who might fit well. Pietrus is intriguing, even though he booted a similar opportunity with Don Nelson.

Miami has a couple of players who might take less to come to Phoenix if they were guaranteed to have a role--James Posey and Eddie Jones. I know the Suns showed interest in Posey at the trade deadline this year.

More likely, the Suns' "fitness club" will wind up with a few reclamation projects at the minimum--Derek Anderson, Aaron McKie, Austin Croshere, or whoever else falls through the cracks. Even Gary Payton might be a possibility if the Heat don't show much fight in the postseason.

This seems as good as place as any.....the person to answer all of F-Dog's prayers is Corey Brewer. I would seriously consider taking him at 4 or 5. He's be exactly what the Suns wanted last year, except with potential for much more.

If the Suns are lucky enough to get Atlanta's pick, they need to go BPA, and Brewer won't be the one.

Who would be better than Brewer at 4 or 5?

I don't think anyone is - if he's there at 4, 5, or 6, he's the guy I want and he fits this club PERFECTLY.

edit: I'd put Brandon Wright up there also, but has he even declared yet? Saw Oden and Conley both declared today - man, this draft is just STACKED. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let us get the Hawks pick!!!!!!!

Brewer is generally ranked from 7 to 12. As good as he seems, he's listed at only 190 pounds and was a very inconsistent shooter last year (just 33.6% for college three).

I cannot see the Suns passing on Horford or Brandan Wright to take Brewer. If they are gone, it gets more interesting with Jeff Green looking like a slightly better fit since he plays inside, is bigger, and has great skills.

Yi Jianlian and Roy Hibbert are guys who seem likely to go ahead of Brewer even though they aren't very good fits for the Suns.

I would love to see Steve Blake on this team. He seems like the anti-Banks.
