I just read on the AZCardinals message board that yesterday on the pre game for either the Bears/Seahawks or Jets/Patriots, Larry Fitzgerald's contract situation came up and the reporter said that Fitzgerald and his agent were looking to receive in the range of 18 million per year to sign a contract extension in Arizona.

Is so, that is ridiculous and we need to look long and hard at getting something in return. Signing Fitzgerald to an 18 million per year deal would go right up there with the Jake Plummer 15 million dollar bonus in 1998. It's a good idea to show the league that you are committed to keeping your core guys, but there has to be a limit.

No player other than an elite QB is worth that kind of money.

Actually agree. No WR worth 18 million per. But I could see him gettingvaround 12 considering his last one was 10 per.

Joeshmoe's right. This may be Fitz's starting number (stress might) but this will be dickered over more than the price of a velvet painting of Elvis in Tijuana.

Graves gave him everything he asked for last time. If I'm Fitz, why not see if it can happen again.

$12mm wont do it

$15mm? perhaps

5 years, $75mm. Think about what the first pick in the draft gets paid and it doesn't seem so bad

NOBODY that touches the ball on average of about 5.5 times a game should get 15+ million. EVER!

You really can't justify it even with the whole "face of the franchise" BS.

Andre Johnson got $73.5 over 7. If Fitz got $75/5, that would make him the highest paid receiver by $4.5 mil a year. AJ finished the year with 86 catches for 1,216 yards and 8 TDs. Fitz finished with 90 catches for 1,137 yards and 6 TDs. Pretty comparable -- and neither finished in the top 5 for yardage or TDs. (Fitz was No. 5 for total receptions, way off the 115 Roddy White had for Atlanta).

Fitz is 27 with 7 years in the league. It's reasonable to assume this will be his last contract, and one would expect performance decline in Years 4 and 5 in any contract, although Fitz is the most fit receiver in football.

I know this: 6 TDs isn't worth $15 mil a year. The most he had was in 2009 -- 13 -- and I'm not even sure that's worth $15 mil.

LOVE Fitz! But not at that price. Not ANY WR.
I doubt it will be that high, Fitz is going to get paid here or some where else. Better be here, but we need that QB thingy to get Fitz signing long term.
Fitz is gonna get payed, but I see him wanting the success he has already tasted. This requires the Cards to be very active in getting some real talent behind center.

Loven your avatar more and more, it is mesmerizing. :)

I think it is totally reasonable.........asuming he can also throw himself the passes.

Hello AJ Green. Face of franchise or not the Bidwills are not going to give up that kind of money for one player unless it was maybe Peyton Manning. If Fitz and his agent are serious about this I can see Fitz being traded for a first rounder to somebody or he will play out his contract and leave.

Many said the same about Pace, Dansby & Rolle...Fitz will get close to that amount & it could be a bargain 3 years down the road.

I think there are going to be a lot of people clutching their chests when they hear the numbers if he re-signs with the Cards. And right now I'm expecting him to. If he does leave this team, he'll still make chest-grabbing numbers.

today that sounds crazy

by the midway point of that extension, it won't.

By the end of it, the average won't even raise eyebrows

If this is correct...what this does is paint the Cardinals into a total corner. There is no way they can even consider $18M a year---heck they had a tough time offering Warner $11M.

Even worse---this would scare off teams that might be interested in trading for Fitz---unless Fitz's agent gives a "wink-wink" assurance to the other team that if they trade for him the asking price comes down.

What this really means---if correct---is that Fitz just wants to play out his contract and hit the market in 2012.

Yes it will. Tom Brady's contract doesn't even average that much. And he is a bonafide 1a QB SUPERSTAR who touches the ball on EVERY offensive play. He just signed this season.

No way in hell will his contract be that big and there is no way anyone on here can even reasonably justify it. Not even with the "in 5 years that will sound like a bargain" we aren't negotiating 5 years from now. We are negotiating at today's rate. I love fitz but his 5 touches per game is not worth that much $$$

No freaking way.

You'd need to average two TD's a game to be worth that much.

No way, no how.

That's not to say we won't do it but we'd be stupid to even get close to that, just bone stupid.
