Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Jim Paxson placed third year forward Paul Shirley on waivers today. The 6'11" Shirley was signed for the remainder of the season last year after completing two ten-day contracts with the club.

Shirley averaged 3 points per game over 7 games with Chicago. He spent two games of the 2002-03 season with the Atlanta Hawks, failing to score.

Take a look at him?

anyone that can't make it on the Bulls is really not worth looking at.

Doesn't Hunter fit the same category? After he cleared waivers, anyone could have gone after him.

Come on, can't we be excited for at least one day? :D

Seriously, I think he will be the Sun's third string center after Voskuhl and Lampe. I'm guessing he will get 12-15 minutes a game. Functionally, he will replace White (though with different strengths). I love to get more, but I will be happy if it means that small ball can be kept to a minimum.

Jake Voskuhl is essentially a Chicago Bulls throw away. Now he is the best center on the Phoenix Suns roster.

no, that's not what I'm saying. I was merely challenging the idea that a Chicago Bulls' reject couldn't help the Phoenix Suns. I don't even know who this guy is. I've never seen him.

Well ... not really. The Suns and Bulls swapped young big men who hadn't done anything yet. As it happens, Voskuhl has turned out to be more of a player than Samake, but it was pretty much a roll of the dice at the time. And didn't the Suns also include a future second-round pick?
