Eagles | Owens Landed in Trade - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 16 Mar 2004 09:22:20 -0800

Jay Glazer, of SportsLine.com, reports WR Terrell Owens will become a member of the Philadelphia Eagles after all. The Owens fiasco has been settled with essentially a brand new trade. Owens will be traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for one of the Eagles' defensive starters -- who has yet to be named because the player has yet to be informed -- and the Baltimore Ravens will receive their second-round draft choice as well as a draft pick from the Eagles, likely a fifth-rounder, for their trouble in the matter.

That's what's being discussed locally and I for one am furious. Apparently TO threatened to take the NFL to court if they ruled against him, San Francisco was concerned that would drag on and they wouldn't get a pick in THIS draft out of it, so they went to the NFL and offered to broker the deal to solve the problem.

So Baby Owens cried and got his way, really ticks me off.

My guess is that Owens was about to win the case and this saves the league from wearing egg on it's face!

Nice for Baltimore.

Not really, it still screws their offseason plan of landing a receiver.....if they hadn't gotten TO I'm sure they would have gone after Jackson.

So then San Fran gets nothing?

They get a "defensive starter" from Philly supposedly, but that player hasn't been named yet because he has to be notified.

I'm with Russ, this whole thing stinks.

It's not fair. It's against the rules. I've seen Baltimore involved in many shady deals over the last couple years, especially on draft day.

The NFL would have won this case, should have won this case. The fact that ANY compensation is due the Ravens, proves this point. If Owens' contention that he and his agent were not at fault in free agency was accurate, the Ravens would be a non issue, that trade would be nullified. This is a brand new trade, essentially from Baltimore to Philly, with compensation to San Francisco. A three way trade.

It's bullcrap cheating all the way around.

Updating an earlier report, ESPNews reports the San Francisco 49ers will receive Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Whiting as part of a three-team trade between the 49ers, Eagles and Baltimore Ravens.

I guess it looked like the arbitrator was going to side with Owens anyway, so while it sucks, it may have been the legal ruling in the end.
