Duce Robinson came to Florida State to be one of the best wide receivers in the country. Mike Norvell sees that in him. Throughout spring ball, Norvell has held Robinson to that high standard.

Yet, the USC transfer still has a long way to go. So far, the 6-foot-6 receiver has been having a great spring in the last five practices, and Norvell is excited to see him in action during FSU's first scrimmage.

"He didn't come here as a finished product," Norvell said.

"There's work to be done, and there are things that he recognizes and embraces for the opportunities to get better, and that's where you got guys that have the potential to be great players when they have a great edge and desire for growth and improvement."

Robinson, the son of former FSU player Dominic, has taken up Norvell's offer, as both are on the same page about setting the bar high. The former five-star prospect continues to praise Norvell for being genuine and backing what he said when he recruited the former Trojan.

"It means the world to me. I wouldn't have it any other way," Robinson said.

"When I was being recruited here, he told me, ‘don't come here unless you're ready to be your best, and he's going to push me to be my best, ’ and he's really lived true to that."

FSU WR Duce Robinson wants to be great playmaker in Gus Malzahn's offense

Robinson wants to be another product of Gus Malzahn's system. He expressed how his offensive style has benefited playmakers because the current offensive coordinator likes to go vertical and make deep-ball passes.

"He's going to push the ball downfield. He's going to cater to his playmakers, so if you're a playmaker, he's going to give you a chance, which I love because I love the opportunity to go up there and showcase my abilities, my talents, and all the work that I've put in," Robinson said.

"So that's one of the main reasons I came here. It was because of Coach Malzahn and how he established himself as the coach he has proven himself to be and what his guys have done in the past. I want to be one of the next great players in Coach Malzahn's offense, and he gives his guys opportunities to go and do that."

Robinson also wants to maximize his natural traits, such as his 6-foot-6 frame. He wants to match his size with physicality, which is also required to play in Malzahn's offense.

"I think one of my biggest things is playing like I'm 6-foot-6. I've been gifted obviously to be a big physical receiver, and I think I have a lot more left that I can take advantage of and become a truly physical receiver," Robinson said.

"So that's been my main focus this spring and obviously little things like working on releases or footwork. It's super prevalent, too, but I think just trying to improve our overall game and fine-tune little aspects of our game will really help us come fall."

At USC, Robinson caught 39 catches for 747 yards and seven touchdowns. The next challenge Robinson wants to improve his game and be a complete wideout is his consistency in finishing plays.

"I think the biggest part of being a receiver is finishing", Robinson said.

"So, I'm just pushing myself to finish every single play and be the best version of myself with every single play, and not necessarily dip below that on any given play. I think that's the main part of consistency I want to work on."
