Sandler, Rogen and Mann in Apatow's Next
Source: Variety
March 10, 2008

Judd Apatow has tapped Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann to star in the next comedy he'll direct, reports Variety.

The untitled film will be a co-production of Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with production to start in late summer or early fall.

Apatow, the sole writer on the project, is keeping the plot under wraps. While the studios will split the costs, Universal will distribute worldwide.

About his third film behind the camera, he says, "I'm trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as my other movies. Wish me luck!" Apatow directs Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in "Funny People," the story of a famous comedian who has a near-death experience.

Adam Sandler, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, RZA and newcomer Aubrey Plaza join a cast that reunites Judd Apatow with Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann and Jonah Hill in their third comedy together.

I wasn't impressed by the trailer or HBO's First Look.

The joke about Harry Potter being called 'Harold' Potter? Not encouraging when they chose to put such a lame joke in the trailer.
Adam Sandler has jumped the shark. Can't tell Judd Apatow has jumped yet.

Heard that this is more emotional and dramatic than most people are probably expecting.

I think that could be pretty could, but the scene I saw that was supposed to be dramatic seemed sappy. I will wait and see.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but the movie poster really annoys me. They are hitting me over the head with 'sweetness'.

I'll probably wait for HBO or Netflix with this one.

Yeah, and they are still trying to mix in Knocked up/40yroldVrigin jokes. Weird combo or just weird promotion.

its a freaking LONG movie. i enjoyed most of it.

the "love" story kinda ruined it for me.....but all in all it was a rather decent dramedy

Being the age that I am, I especially got a kick out of all the sexual humor. That was pretty much the only positive for me. It was too long and I found myself expecting more throughout the movie...or at least something to happen to make it worth being there.

Maybe I'm weird, but so far from what I've seen I haven't been impressed by any of the Apatow movies. Still need to watch Knocked Up..

Just saw the movie yesterday and came away with a couple thoughts...

The first hour and a half was TERRIFIC! The pacing was great the jokes were spot on and the movie felt like a real life drama, that was smartly written and well acted...

It Apatow could of found a way to end the movie in about 100 minutes it could have been close to if not perfect...

But the last hour dragged on and seemed like it didn't know which way it was suppose to go. When it ends, you are left a little confused as to just how much you enjoyed your expierence...

one critic put it PERFECTLY..

After the first part, you want to hug Apatow and Sandler for giving you such an amazing treat. Then, we get the second part and want to punch Apatow and Sandler.

Way too long and couldn't seem to figure out what they wanted the movie to be. There were some really funny parts, but they weren't funny enough to validate the near 3 hours of life and 20 bucks I blew on going to see this.

Leslie Mann sucks as an actress, especially serious acting. I know she's Apatow's wife.. but gosh.

I thought Rogen did a great job.

Overall, eh.

Recently watched it. Yup, pretty much my thoughts too. I really really wanted to like it, but the second half just killed it for me. I need more than some funny sex jokes to enjoy it.
