My couch is est 15 feet from my tv. Right now I have a 42" and its fine for the most part until I play video games. When the games have text to read, I have to TRY to read instead of just reading it, I am simply too far away. I have 20/20 so its not me, its just the distance. If I park halfway in the room, it seems to be just fine. With that beind said, an 84" tv should do the trick but I feel like that is excessive. Does anyone else have their tv this far away?

Its a pain as I cant just try out different sizes and buy, I have to make a decision and hope it fits my needs.

When I look up recommended viewing angles and stuff it seems they say you should be 6 feet away from a 60" tv which is just crazy so I cannot trust those reviews.

Hoping someone else has a far from the tv living room setup like I do and can tell me what size you have and if you would go bigger or smaller in the future.

Especially someone who plays video games as tv shows are perfectly fine at this distance. Video games have much smaller charecotrs and you often have to see minor details to find hidden treasures and the like.

A stab in the dark guess is that I should go 60". Have considered 50" but if it doesnt fix the problem, I spent 1k and didnt find a soilution. unnacceptable!

It depends on the viewing angles that your TV can sufficiently handle.

Generally, they say either 2.5x the size of the TV for a 30 degree angle. So at 15', an optimal size is 72". I would always go bigger than smaller if I had the budget.

I have a 60" TV at around 11' in one room and another 60" at around 15.5 feet in another room. I'd like a bigger TV for this room, but it works.

60" at 15.5 ft is likely very similar to my situation, do you have trouble viewing text on video games? to where you have to lean forward and squint a little bit? Ive been playing fable 3 lately in the new living room and each time it has text for a quest I have to lean forward and TRY to read it instead of just reading it and going. Also when traveling the world and looking for stuff in the landscape I have a hard time seeing.

The new zombie survival arcade game was near impossible as there is foilage everywhere and the zombies blend in big time from 15' but when I was 6' away I could actually see them.

Almost sounds like on your opinion I should go above 60" if budgetable, I have found some 60" for 1k.

Im not too tech savvy on tvs and viewing angles, im sitting dead center, just very far away!

I am tempted just to buy a gaming chair that I can sit closer in and save money for now but it would be nice to just get the bigger tv and continue sitting far.

I dont have trouble seeing small text at all. You might want to check the resolutions that are on TV. The better the resolution, the smaller things like text will show up on your TV. It is the same as computers.

I wouldn't go smaller than 60" at 15+ feet. I would do the biggest you can that your budget can allow. (Assuming that the TVs you are looking at have good reviews)

The current TV is also 720p, could be part of the issue.

Bought a 60" Samsung Plasma just over a year ago for a 15' room... It's 1080p. As DCR said, I would actually go bigger the next time. However, the 60 incher works just fine and we have no issues reading small text...

I'm 16' away from a 55" tv, which is fine most of the time. But, to play games I usually sit about 6' away in my gamer chair. If I wasn't constrained by a window and a door I'd buy the biggest tv costco had.

I sit about nine feet away from a 70" TV. I love it but I wouldn't go any bigger at this distance. At fifteen feet, I'd definitely want to go for at least a 70 inch TV if possible.

For now with my smaller TV I do plan on getting a chair that I can just sit close in. Temporary, under 1k fix :)

I wish I had your 15 feet to work with. LG has an 84 inch Ultra HD TV (4K) out now that is just under 15 grand. If I had your room and $14,999 lying around, that's what I'd be buying. Seriously though, the 4K TVs are dropping in price and I've heard it said that you really need at least an 80 inch TV to fully appreciate the extra resolution. So you might consider staying with your current setup or going really cheap with the idea of buying something like this in 3 years or so when the price is down to 2 grand or less.
