Gambo and Ash quit and today was their last show. Said they opted out of their contract to pursue other options. WTF?????? I thought they were one of the only good shows in town. Anyone heard anything about why they quit?

No, haven't heard a thing. I went to college with Asher (he dated my now sister in law a couple of times) and he's a good guy.

Interested in finding out more..

At the end of the show they announced it, I couldn't believe it. I'm good friends with Ash and texted him to see if they were joking (said they weren't). Very weird, I wonder if their going to another station but you'd think they have a no compete in their contracts

yea I heard it too. Gambo was on the verge of tears when they were talking about it. Ironically, i only caught the last 10 minutes of the program. did they say anything about a big announcement at the start of the show?

I know they weren't always the greatest, but i enjoyed listening to them the most during afternoons

I know, craziness. I think they had a great show, def always had great guests. Too wierd, somethings goin on. I think ClearChannel bought their station affiliate a couple months back which might have something to do with it (I might be wrong on that but I believe I'm right).

Wow... if this is true, the Valley is officially the WORST city in the nation when it comes to Radio Sports Talk... Not that these two were spectacular - far from it, but they were informed, objective and solid...
This could really SUCK!

That's exactly what I was thinking. SDJ, I believe your in the radaio industry...... Do you think they would have non-compete clauses in their contracts? I hope they stay in the valley

Bickley and MJ are good. Otherwise, you're spot on.

That's a good question.

Now a days, in the radio industry especially, non-compete clauses are more of a pain in the ass to encorporate when it comes to contract negotiations than they're actually worth.

If they do have one, it's easily breakable.

Either you have an out of towner non Phoenix native coming on the radio telling us all how we don't know real sports like they have back East (Gambo) or you have a putz who is a Phoenix native who only rags on the local teams

can't we get a homer on the radio?

Dude - you aren't serious are you?? Dickley and Jerky are "good"??? Those two have to be, bar none, two of the worst sports talkl personalities I have ever heard. They redefine SUCK!

Well, compared to a guy who seemingly hates everything Phoenix and the random assortment of crap golf shows, hunting shows and shows where the hosts are more interested in knowing your hometown than they are what your opinion of sports is, I'd say they're good. Then again, I have low standards I guess.

I also like "The Positive Side Of Sports".

Informed - in certain sports not football or basketball
Objective - at times
Solid - They were okay but there show was too long. Gambo has a personality that you can only take for a short period of time. 3 hours would be tolerable

Those are some low standards... I guess I was spoiled growing up in the NYC area...
For true Sports Talk, go check out Mike and the Mad Dog at www.wfan.com. These two are head & shoulders above any other show in the country...

Alright Already with the Bickley Sucks Stuff - We KNOW That

Will someone please break down the final minutes of Gambo and Ashe. I missed the close. What, if anything, did they say?

Gambo and Ash were probably the best local sports talk show, except for Gambo's NYC homerish. I'm sorry 82 but for those of us that didn't grow up in New York it grows thin very quickly. The majority of us could care less and it turned a lot of people off.
The shake up in local radio is going to be interesting and much needed.

Hey, even I found Gambo to be a bit over the top at times... But I still thought he and Ashe had something to build on... Unlike the other two morons in the morning...

Az is a right to work state which for most employment issues means you have next to zero rights. One right you do have is that a non compete can't prevent you from working to earn your living

They'll end up on KTAR's new station will find a way around the no compete clause. They were #1 in one of the biggest sports markets in the country, so no way they just disappear like that. Not even Gambo is that dumb.
