BB said their location in the Braves new park is very high up. He said that is why he misjudged a hit ball.

And today is tribute day to Jackie Robinson. Everyone is wearing number 42.

When I was five years old, my Dad would take me to see games at Roosevelt Stadium
in Jersey City, hoping that I would become a NY Giants fan (I became a Dodger fan).

That was the year that Jackie had his first pro game, at Roosevelt Stadium, when he broke
in with the top farm team of the Dodgers, the Montreal Royals. I have always wondered if
I might have been at that game. We saw quite a few.

A 4-letter man at UCLA. A Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. All before breaking the color barrier
in MLB. And the abuse he took, which resulted in his premature death from diabetes.

Jackie Robinson was quite a guy!

Meanwhile, the D-backs stranded runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the 2nd.

Ender Inciarte almost made a diving catch in CF, but he couldn't hold on to it
and a run scores. Then Carson Kelly drives in another. Runners on 2nd & 3rd
with Robbie up (lefty vs. lefty) and 2 outs.

The D-backs had four consecutive hits with two outs. 'Good to see!

2-0 D-backs in the middle of the 4th.

And Acuna with a solo HR in the bottom of the 4th. 2-1 D-backs.

Robbie is getting hit in the bottom of the 5th. A run doubled in to tie the score.

An intentional walk loads the bases. And a bases clearing double. 5-2 Braves after 5.

Ugh!

Escobar with a 2-run bases loaded single. It's a one-run game in the top of the 7th with no one out.

And the bases are loaded once again. Then, Walker with his second hit of the night.
Bases still loaded again. A ground out and the score is tied.

D-backs take the lead, but Lopez in relief gives up a tying run. 6-6.

Wow, their pitching sucks.

I don’t think they ever really recovered from trading away Shelby Miller.

Is it me, or have the pitching substitutions tonight been even wackier than normal?

What happened to Hirano pitching the 7th and Archie pitching the 8th?

Christian Walker with his second consecutive 3-hit incl. HR game.

As Steve said, he is back! What a clutch hit in the top of the 9th.

All five of his home runs have been in the 7th inning or later.

Now 7-6 D-backs. Carson Kelly doubles with two outs and Murphy
walks. And Adam Jones doubles them in. Breathing room at 9-6.

Indeed, one of the few bright spots in our bullpen, closer Holland,
comes in and gets the save. D-backs win to start the 10-game
road trip. Second D-backs victory in a row.

I for one appreciate your insight and long history of baseball knowledge.

Thanks, AZ.

At the age of 11, raised in New Jersey, the Brooklyn Dodgers were my first love. Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges.
Then came Alan Freed and the birth of Rock'n'Roll. Then came cars. Then came girls. Then came the fraternity. Fun and carefree, days!

I did get to meet Bob Cousy, the famous Point Guard of the Celtics and , later, Walt "Clyde" Frazier of the Knicks.

Later, it was my honor to meet Joe Black here in Phoenix, then Don Newcombe at a Dodger game in L.A., as arranged by Joe Black, and talk
about the Dodgers and New Jersey (where we were all from). Boy, was Joe Black pissed that the Dodgers traded him to Cincinnati mid-way
through the 1955 season, the year of their only World Series championship back east.

Campy had gone into the hospital when I brought my sons over to L.A., so I never got to meet him. Sadly, he passed away shortly thereafter.

As I mentioned in a post some time ago, as a model railroad enthusiast, I would have loved to discuss his train layouts. And now, two years
younger than John MacLeod, who just passed away, and a year younger than Jerry Colangelo, I do reminisce sometimes.

But I also root for our D-backs and Suns, in particular, to be contenders. Especially since the 3-time champion Mercury will be rebuilding in a
few seasons, too. I will miss Diana Taurasi and, my favorite, DeWanna Bonner.

Go Phoenix! Go Arizona!

P.S.: Living in the Paradise Valley area of Phoenix for 41 years, I have enjoyed burgers at Crazy Ed's Satisfied Frog and, more recently, the
Horny Toad
in Cave Creek. 'Fun places to visit.

I recently drove up Hayden to Carefree to find some cacti along the side of the road so I could get photos of my SUV in the desert.

My college girlfriend grew up next door to Campy. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in the last couple of years of his life. Wonderful, sweet man.

Cool! Did she or you ever see his model RR layout or was that after he was in L.A.?

Did you just tell your life story in a game thread?
Are you running for public office?
Does this van have four wheel drive?
