Except for Vargas instead of Escobar at 3B, this is our best 1-7 batting order.

With 4-5 months off every year, do ballplayers really need assigned days off?

Before I retired, I worked 49-50-51 weeks per year (considering vacations)
and was expected to work . . . when I was expected to work.

Yes, the schedule lasts eight games more than in the old days (plus
Division series for the best teams), but the method of transportation
and quality of hotels at which they stay are far improved.

As are the medical staffs and facilities.

Not only millionaires for playing a child's game, but spoiled brats.

Unions are necessary until they go too far.

Hey, get off my lawn!

Pitchers' battle so far.

Oops, I spoke too soon. A triple and single
and the Braves take the lead in the 4th.

Peralta with a triple in the 6th following Marte's double with 2 outs
and the D-backs tie it at 1-1.

Think where we'd be without the Freight Train covering for Goldy.

D-backs gets a rundown out with Murphy chasing a runner back to 3B . . . and catches him.

Runners on first & second. A short fly out for the second out of the the 7th inning.

And Greinke with a strikeout on his 98th pitch.

Lopez gives up a HR to Acuna and the Braves lead 2-1 with two outs in the 8th.

Now add Yoan Lopez as the final piece of what has been a complete implosion of the bullpen. How the heck is Mike Fetters still employed?

So you expect Lopez to never give up a run? That is unrealistic.

For what he has done so far, Lopez deserves our praise.

You may be right or wrong about Fetters, but please
explain exactly what he has done wrong. The biggest
bust has been Archie, who has one pitch -- a fast ball.
And a beard. :)

In his best season, Ted Williams made out 6 out of every
10 at-bats. 'Good thing you weren't posting then.

Holland suddenly can't get anyone out.

Yoshi has regressed horribly.

Chafin continues to be Jekyll and Hyde.

And that pitch that Yoan threw to give up the HR might as well have been placed on a tee.

Also, the team is 21st in MLB in bullpen ERA, 23rd in bullpen BAA and 16th in bullpen WHIP.

I see your last sentence. I wonder, really wonder, how much of a role the bullpen coach plays in bullpen decisions.

I get that. But the bullpen has been a disaster this year and is getting worse. The most likely culprit is either the bullpen coach, the pitching coach (but the starters other than Godley are performing admirably) and the manager (and the team overall has overachieved), so...

Yup, you could be right.

Plus Fetters has never been known as much of a strategist or all that intelligent. He has always been kind of a circus sideshow in MLB. Frankly I was surprised when he was hired in the first place.

With the Freight Train in the dugout, the D-backs go down in order in the 9th
and we lose 2-1.

Two more games vs. the Braves. Tomorrow at 5 PM and Sunday at 1 PM.
