Adam Jones, from San Diego, leads off with a HR.

Flores with a double. And Peralta doubles him in.

D-backs will face five lefties in these next 6 games.

Lamb was taking ground balls at 3B today.

We can only hope for Walker, who just walked.

Then a fly ball double play and it's 2-0 D-backs.

Peralta and Marte with sliding catches in the outfield to start the bottom of the 1st.

Escobar with a bases loaded bloop and its 3-0 with one out in the 2nd.

And Flores, batting third in the lineup, grounds into a double play to end the inning.

Lovullo batted Flores third again?!? Un-freaking-real.

Yup.

Ahmed with a sac fly in the 3rd. 4-0 D-backs. 'Good to see steady hitting . . . and scoring.

Avila singles in the 5th run. He has emerged as the primary Catcher. I like that choice. A good hitter and a good receiver.

The Padres pitcher is outta there. He wasn't very much of a challenge.

I think the D-backs have scored at least 5 runs in each of their first five games.

Today's starter, Merrill Kelly, a 30 year old rookie, is off to a good start. He has pitched the last four years in Korea.

They should’ve got 2 or 3 more off of him but 5 SHOULD be enough.

Peralta with another hit in the 5th. Then a double by Walker, who had walked earlier. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. No outs.

Marte gets on by an error on a high throw and it's 6-0. Runners on 1st and 3rd and no one out.

Ahmed doubles in a run. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out. 7-0.

Let's not play another game in L.A. all season. :)

BB just said that Ildemar was sent down to the minors, so the D-backs have a bench of only 4 position players and 2 are Catchers.

That could present problems. I'd like to see us go with 2 Catchers instead of 3.

Two more runs score on a late throw home from 2B and the Catcher losing the ball.

9-0 D-backs. It is good to see the rookie starting Pitcher Kelly getting support.

Is Kelly considered a rookie?

That is what Steve is saying. He has never pitched in the Major Leagues.

He pitched in the Minors for five seasons. So, yes, he is a Major League rookie.

BTW, they changed the call for Marte driving in a run from an error to a hit.

And here in the 5th Merrill gives up his second hit of the game but still a shutout.

Peralta, after two doubles and a single, grounds out to lead off the 6th.

The Freight Train had, what was it, either no hits or one hit during Spring Training.

One hit was taken away from the rainout. 'Glad it was just practice games.

Walker flies out to deep RF to end the inning.

This has been a fun game to watch so far. Always nice to see a rookie do well in his first major league action.

Kelly was hit in the leg by a comebacker last inning. Now, in the bottom of the
6th he has runners on 1st and 3rd and Torey gets a reliever up in the bullpen.

A sac fly drives in the first San Diego run. Then, a 2-run HR by the rookie
Tatis, Jr. and it is 9-3.

The guys in the booth were hinting that Torey should have considered getting
someone up in the bullpen earlier.

Lamb, pinch hitting vs. a righty, drives in a run. 10-3 D-backs.

John Duplantier, just up from the Minors, coming on in relief
for the D-backs for his rookie debut. He was a starter.

He had 32 strikeouts in 22 innings in the Arizona Fall League.

And a 1-2-3 7th inning with a strikeout.

He will be back out for the 8th inning.

Duplantier gives up an infield single, then a double play. And a ground out.

And he comes up to hit in the top of the 9th for his 3rd inning.

When he starts his first game, I'll smile and remember this day.

Godley better look over his shoulder.

Steve just said Duplantier could get a 3-inning save.

I thought the winning run has to be, at least, in the on-deck circle
for a save. Is it because he threw 3 innings?

Final score -- 10-3. If Greinke comes through tomorrow, the
D-backs could be at .500.

Yes, if any pitcher pitches at least the last 3 innings in relief and holds a lead the entire time, it's a save no matter what the score.

Frankly, I don't know why Duplantier or Widener weren't in the starting line-up instead of Godley to begin with.
