Diamondbacks 16, Brewers 9
What stood out on Friday at American Family Fields of Phoenix:
RHP Corbin Burnes got knocked around in his spring training finale: The newest member of the Diamondbacks' starting rotation allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits in 2⅔ innings against his former team. He'd allowed a total of two runs over 13⅓ innings in six previous spring outings. Burnes was taken out for a reliever to finish the second inning then re-entered the game in the top of the third and finished with five strikeouts. Burnes said he will have one more outing in spring training before the regular season starts. "We're going to see it through Corbin's eyes, we're going to do what's best for him," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said.
Burnes seemed fine with Zac Gallen getting the Opening Day nod: Burnes and Gallen are sharing a March Madness bracket and the two knew each other before Burnes came to Arizona. "Happy for him. Obviously Zac's the guy, he's been here for the last couple of years," Burnes said. "I don't get paid to make that decision ... just have to live with it and go on. No bad blood, nothing."

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno hit two-run home runs: The Diamondbacks scored four runs in the top of the first inning, both on home runs against Milwaukee's Opening Day starter, Freddy Peralta. It was Gurriel's first of spring training and Moreno's third. Gurriel had three hits and four runs batted in.
Ketel Marte went 4-for-4 and was a home run away from the cycle: Marte, batting leadoff, doubled, singled twice and cleared the loaded bases with a triple in the fourth inning. He had four RBIs.
Pavin Smith played three innings and left the game with a right wrist contusion: Smith was hurt on a play at first base involving a throw from Burnes as the Brewers' runner got to the bag. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the fourth, and Lovullo said Smith, who figures to have a larger role in the lineup this season, is day to day and that the expectation is that he will be OK.
Adrian Del Castillo to Reno: Lovullo was asked before the game about the club's decision to option catcher Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno. "It was a challenging move for us. He's meant a lot to this organization, helped us win a lot of baseball games last year," Lovullo said. "But there were clearly some things he needed to work on. Offensively he's got to continue to work on control of the zone. ... those little things that we always harp on here because we feel like he's got a good chance to be a really complete hitter." The decision clears the way for José Herrera to open the season as the backup catcher to Moreno.
Next game, Saturday, March 22: Diamondbacks RHP Brandon Pfaadt vs. Giants RHP Justin Verlander, 12:05 p.m., Scottsdale Stadium.
