A young couple in front of us who were in bears shirts purchased cardinals t-shirts at halftime....they both changed jerseys in their seats...and the Cardinals proceeded to tank the rest of the game (the girl managed to pull it off without showing any skin...in case you were wondering).. I think this young couple put a hex on the cardinals or something...
anyway....the play calling the entire second half (on offense) was killing us..in my view. Pope makes a nice catch early in the 1st quarter...and then we never really throw to him again (if we did - I missed it). Why not try mixing it up? It is like we have this mentality: we are going to do 2 things: drop back passes and throw to boldin (mostly) or walters....or..we are going to run edge right up the gut....which obviously never worked. Suggestions:
1. Run some misdirection.
2. Try a quick pass to wakefield....no one bothers to cover him as he obviously is in to block on running plays...so why not try one short one? maybe get a few yards..we run like 100% of the time when Wakefield is the tight end...very obvious.
3. What happened to Pope after the 1st drive?
4. Run the fullback the opposite direction of where Edge is going and actually give the fb the ball a couple of times.
5. Roll lineart out more often....and do some designed plays where matt may run a few yards in a rollout. He had like 0 carries...I know..we do not want him to get hurt...but tell him to get down..fast..he will get killed as easily dropping back and getting hit from the blindside.
6. Line boldin in the slot....or something..something to draw away from the obvious..
7. Holiday seems like an athlete..figure out something creative to try and get him the ball..bears would not be expecting this because the guy has really never played....
Two things we did in 1998...that seemed to work...
1. They constantly ran Frank sanders on "fake" reverses..this seemed to loosen up the defense...
2. The shuffle (or shuttle?) pass to Centers....jake kind of flipped the ball forward...this worked a ton against over pursuing defenders.
TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT..Edge up the middle was a worthless play...and at times late in game there was like 3 guys hanging on boldin.
May suggestion may suck...but they need to try something different.....The bears and most fans seemed to know where the ball was going almost every play...or so it seemed... Obviously other mistakes on special teams and turnovers determined the outcome...but the offensive play calling was so conservative that you could feel the tide completely turning...
