When starting a game my pointer "floats" across the screen to the left. I can click it back to another point but then it starts moving left again.

Otherwise the mouse is working just fine. The same thing happened using two different games and two different brands of optical mice.

Weird.

Anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to correct the problem?

I think it might be a video issue as the mouse isn't moving but the cursor just takes off to the left as soon as the game goes live.

Time to visit Alienware I think.

Go and turn down your graphics accelerator. It should work. There is even a setting specifically for mouse issues.

Actually I've had this happen before quite a bit.

You probably have a joystick hooked up to the computer. When gameplay starts, the joystick's right analog stick is probably set up as the "mouse" because that's how FPS games are played. I would say either re-calibrate the joystick or remove it for the games you play with the mouse.
