Lead CBS Sports college football analyst Gary Danielson, one of the best in the business, is retiring at the end of the 2025 season, per the network.

Danielson has been with the network since 2006 after working for ESPN and ABC Sports, and his work with Verne Lundquist and Brad Nessler cemented him as one of the best broadcast analysts in all of sports.

While it's great that Danielson isn't retiring right away, we're not sure what Saturdays in the future will be like without Danielson calling a big afternoon game on CBS.

However, the network has tabbed the excellent Charles Davis to take Danielson's spot in 2026. Davis is a wonderful choice to carry Danielson's legacy, and we will absolutely miss Danielson on our televisions after he retires.

The well-wishes for Danielson and Davis with the big announcement were immediate and plentiful.

Gary Danielson is a legend. His replacement, Charles Davis, is legendary. Great friend and an EXCEPTIONAL man. CBS, well done https://t.co/tsTAUv4xgu

Man, I can't even say how happy I am for CD.

Won't find a better dude or anyone more deserving. https://t.co/MnQx3mEkBc

I have respect for every SINGLE person I have worked with at CBS so when I say this I don’t say it lightly —

There is no one I have learned more football or making great television from than Gary.

4 years working on the sideline alongside him changed my career. A PRO. https://t.co/NE41Ay6gVn

Gary has been a constant across the CFB landscape for many decades and we look forward to celebrating his contributions to @B1Gfootball during the upcoming season.

It’s also great to welcome back Charles Davis to the B1G (analyst for first few B1G Champ Games). https://t.co/VdS1gIDX9x

CFB is losing a legend. After 20 yrs of elite booth work at @CBSSports , Gary’s hanging it up. He was the gold standard in making BOTH fanbases think he hated their team. Likely led the nation in ‘broken remotes caused,’ but had a GAS factor 2nd to none. Learned a ton from him. https://t.co/OOy1WqVIfd

Learned so much from Gary during my years in the SEC. So many memories and laughs and so many incredible games! One of the best to ever do it! https://t.co/LmuvbOHcbh
