Gatlin works out for second NFL team

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Olympic and world sprint champion Justin Gatlin worked out for the Arizona Cardinals this week, his second tryout for an NFL team.

Gatlin, who faces an eight-year ban from track and field following a positive drug test, worked out for Cardinals officials Tuesday, team spokesman Mark Dalton said Friday.

Gatlin, who has not played football since high school, worked out for the Houston Texans on Nov. 28.

The 24-year-old sprinter still shares the world 100-meter record of 9.77 seconds, but that will be wiped off the books once his doping penalty becomes official. Gatlin tested positive for testosterone and other steroids at the Kansas Relays in April.

He is awaiting an appeal hearing in an attempt to get his punishment reduced. Gatlin won the Olympic 100 gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games and the 100 and 200 at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki.

Seems odd they'd do this and doubt he makes it but anyone know anything about this guy? At least he played some in High School.

I don't care if runs a 100 in 8 secs flat. He's useless if he can't catch. If he could catch the Texans probably would have signed him already.

I dont care if he can be a reciever.

Can he catch a kickoff or punt?

Also teams are now allowed to sign players off the street to future contracts. They dont take effect until the 2007 offseason officially starts.
