i've got one jurrasic 5 disc - i thought it was okay. listened to it long time ago - might have to dust it off and see if i'm a bit more tolerant to it now, but i'm not going to hold my breath.

ok heres what I think

Jurrasic 5 - Too watered down, alot about nothing here for me
Blackilicious - Never listened to them/him
Tupac - One of the best of all time, listen to Me Against the World or The 7 Day Theory albums
Del the Funky Homosapien - One of my favorites, pure hip-hop.. listen to No Need For Alarm or Both Sides Of The Brain albums
Atmosphere - Never listened to them/him
People Under The Stairs - Never listened to them/him
Mac Dre - Gansta rapper that talks about b*tches and guns alot, beats are average, not my kinda rap I like

My favorite albums I could listen to front to back are:

Tupac - Me Against The World & The 7 Day Theory
DMX - Its Dark And Hell Is Hot & Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood
Xzibit - At The Speed Of Life
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Ice Cube - Amerikkas Most Wanted & Death Certificate
Del - No Need For Alarm
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions...
Dr. Dre - The Chronic & 2001
Jay-Z - The Blueprint & The Black Album
Da Lenchmob - Guerrillas In Tha Mist
Nas - Illmatic
Thug Life - Thug Life
Kanye West - College Dropout

Those are the ones that came to mind right away. Take any song off those albums, and its something I would like.

Definately cop you some Heiroglyphics. They have had their mis-steps of late, but the early Heiro like Souls of Mischief's first album, Casual's first album, and Del's first "non-Lench Mob" album are absolute classics. I'm an old head so you can't go wrong with Tribe, De La Soul or Black Sheep's first album. A lot depends on what you want. Do you want Lyrics, or beats, or a combo of both? West coast or East, old or new school. The possibilities are endless.

Sage is alright. He's got fantastic concepts, but his pseudo intellectual style puts a lot of cats off. Not much up on Aesop or Tame. A lot of those Def-Jux kids are out there. Murs is a beast, and grab you some Slum Villiage. They are a must although I wouldn't call them underground. They're not mainstream either, but with you just starting out, their freshness will be a treat for your ears. I love them cats to death!!!!

I just "acquired" this album and am pretty underwhelmed. Prolly give it a few more spins.

Gee's list is very solid. Another one I would add (for me) is Black Rob's "Life Story".

Twista and Do Or Die aren't from the West Coast, they're from Chicago.

Some albums I forgot that are straight fire…

Every Redman album…he’s one of my favorites

Busta Rhymes - The Coming

And one artist that gets my attention but scattered songs…

Beanie Sigel..he’s dope, but some songs are lousy

BTW.. The only reason 50 Cent got so many sales was from the Eminem jock strap holders. Like Philly card said. 50 was fire on them mixtapes, and even his “How To Rob” song. Long before the mixtapes.

I like GRODT for whats its worth. Some jams on there, but nothing I hold in high acclaim.

And Eminem’s time is ending soon. He’s garbage now. The Slim Shady Lp is the only one I like. And that was what? 6years ago?

I totally agree about 50 and Eminem. 50s next CD won't do nearly as well as his first.

Eminem is garbage. He's totally changed his style because he wanted people to take him seriously. His old stuff was original and made me say "Damn" like every other verse.

I actually like Atmosphere alot. Some songs you might want to check out are "Trying to find a Balance" and "Always coming back home to you" . Aesop rock is also a good listen (check out a song called "Freeze"). Some other artists I'd recomend are:
Souls Of Mischief ('93 Til Infinity is probably my favorite album of all time)
Black Moon
Smiff-N-Wessun
Genius/GZA (check out an album called Liquid Swords)
Boot Camp Click
Hieroglyphics
Digable Planets
Gangstarr
Outkast (I prefer the old stuff off of Southerplayalisticadillacmusik)
I know this is an old thread, but just had to get my word in.
