The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of a tough 2024-25 season as they have dealt with every injury imaginable. They sit at 23-48 in what was once a season filled with championship expectations, but, obviously, they will fall short of that.
The Sixers saw a familiar face in Sunday's 132-119 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the form of Georges Niang. The veteran out of Iowa State played two seasons for the Sixers and provided some terrific shooting off the bench for them.
For all intents and purposes, Niang is a role player who brings a ton of energy and he loves to talk a lot of smack. He let Sixers guard Quentin Grimes know about it on Sunday as he had some words that were picked up on the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcast:
In a way, Niang isn't wrong. If Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were healthy, the Sixers would, obviously, have Grimes play a different role for this group. However, Grimes has played extremely well as the No. 1 option averaging 30.3 points over his last eight games including scoring a career-high 46 in a loss to the Houston Rockets.
Niang is always going to talk. That's just who he is. Grimes needs to just keep playing up his recent level and finish the season strong. His season is the only thing that matters for him and the Sixers.
