The Georgia Bulldogs have received a commitment from Miami Hurricanes transfer defensive tackle Joshua Horton. He’s the third transfer prospect who has committed to Georgia during the spring transfer portal window, joining Illinois running back Josh McCray and Army edge rusher Elo Modozie.
Horton is a Peach State native. He played high school football at Langston Hughes in Fairburn, Georgia, and signed with the Miami Hurricanes in the 2023 class. 247Sports ranked Horton as a four-star recruit. He was the nation’s No. 47 defensive lineman and the No. 32 player in Georgia.
Over the last two seasons, Horton has played in eight games, recording four total tackles and half a sack. He battled injuries in 2024. Interestingly, he did receive an offer from Georgia and defensive line coach Tray Scott during his initial recruitment, but it didn't seem like the Bulldogs were strongly pursuing his commitment at that time.
According to Langston Hughes High School's MaxPreps page, Joshua Horton had an outstanding senior year. Playing defensive tackle, he amassed 123 total tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. He also recorded four sacks and pressured the quarterback 13 times. In his junior season, he had 81 total stops and seven tackles for loss.
Horton projects to produce at a similar level to how former South Carolina transfer Xzavier McLeod did in 2024 for Georgia. Last season, McLeod appeared in 11 games and recorded 13 total tackles and two pass deflections.
We expect for Horton to be part of Georgia's defensive line rotation, but would be surprised if he starts. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman projects to be a defensive end in UGA's defensive scheme.
247Sports ranks Horton as a three-star transfer. He is the No. 794 transfer in the country and the No. 85 defensive lineman. His signing addresses a clear position of need for Georgia.
