Georgia Hall, the Open champion, endured a torrid opening round at the Women's US Open, which left the Englishwoman 10 shots behind early leader Mamiko Higa of Japan. The world No 22 went to the Charleston Country Club with high hopes but will need a major turn around on day two to even make the cut as she ended four-over, playing through a difficult breeze. Fellow Englishwomen and members of the world top-25, Bronte Law and Charley Hull, both struggled to stay under par in the front nine, reaching the turn one-over.
