Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton met with the media during spring practice for the first time. Stockton revealed how he found out that former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck was transferring to the Miami Hurricanes.
"I found out... like everybody (else)," said Stockton. "I saw it on the stuff."
Stockton revealed that Beck did not say anything upon making his transfer decision. "No, he was busy," added Stockton. "No, I know he's been busy right now just with spring ball and everything, but hope he's doing good."
Beck is still recovering after undergoing elbow surgery in the weeks following Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas. Beck is unable to pass, but is participating in spring practice with Miami.
"Carson (Beck) is getting plenty of work, just not actually slinging ball downfield," said Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal after a recent practice.
It appears that Stockton has not been able to lean on Beck too much since the SEC championship game. Beck is expected to be ready to play for the fall, but that does not concern Georgia very much.
Gunner Stockton notes that he's been trying to improve his footwork and has been watching tape this offseason. Stockton is competing to be Georgia's starting quarterback with redshirt freshman Ryan Puglisi. Stockton has a significant advantage in terms of experience over Puglisi.
Stockton is one of the veterans in the Georgia locker room. He is looking to lead a Georgia team that does not return as much experience as it has in previous years.
"I felt like spring's been pretty good," said Stockton. "I've enjoyed just getting out there and getting to connect with everybody. Some new guys and everybody on the team and just getting to connect with everybody."
Georgia's G-Day spring game will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. ET (not televised).
