Mar. 14—OMAHA, Neb. — UND freshman Sacha Boisvert leads the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in points by a rookie with 28.
He's tied as the team's leading scorer and was named one of three NCHC Rookie of the Year finalists on Wednesday.
Boisvert, a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, spoke to the Herald this week about his rookie season and shared some of his off-ice favorites.
Q. Points have started to pile up for you in the second half. What has been the key?
A. I think it's just staying consistent in practice every day. It's just staying consistent with your routine and it will translate onto the ice.
Q. How have you developed throughout this year? What was it like coming in right away and what's it like right now?
A. I'm a pretty confident guy. I came in with a lot of confidence. But obviously, at first, the play was fast and guys were strong. The more I move forward, the more the game slows down a little bit and my confidence keeps going up.
Q. You've scored goals in six-straight games, the longest streak by a freshman in college hockey this season. What's it like to go on a goal-scoring run like this?
A. It's definitely good. You don't really think about anything, you just try to go out there and have some fun. Then, usually, it ends up going in the back of the net and things go well for you. I think it's just sticking to basics, playing well and having fun.
Q. What was your reaction to being named an NCHC Rookie of the Year finalist?
A. I didn't even know.
Q. Oh, you were named NCHC Rookie of the Year finalist today.
A. That's nice. That means a lot with my first year coming in, but we've still got some hockey to play. So, I'm just trying to prove I can win that title in the next few games and hopefully we can go on a run.
Q. What's your favorite sport to watch besides hockey?
A. UFC.
Q. Who is your favorite fighter?
A. (Alex) Pereira, I'd say.
Q. What's one restaurant Grand Forks needs to get?
A. Chipotle.
Q. What's the best concert you've ever attended?
A. Zach Bryan, Grand Forks.
Q. What's your favorite place you've ever traveled to?
A. I went on a family trip to Banff. That was nice.
Q. What's a bucket-list travel destination for you?
A. Paris or Venice.
Q. Do you have a song you listen to before every game?
A. Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.
Q. If you have to cook a meal yourself, what's your go-to?
A. Steak.
Q. What's your go-to cheat meal?
A. Burger.
Q. What's your favorite TV show?
A. I don't watch TV a lot, honestly. I'm more of a movie guy.
Q. What movie have you seen the most times?
A. Shutter Island.
Q. Do you have any game day routines?
A. Just a nap.
Q. For how long?
A. As long as I can go. I like long naps.
Q. Are you a coffee guy?
A. Somewhat.
Q. What do you get?
A. Something with caramel. A cold brew sometimes when I need a little more energy.
Q. What's your favorite city in the United States?
A. I like Boston.
Q. What's your favorite city in Canada?
A. My city. Trois-Rivieres.
Q. When you were a child, who was your favorite hockey player?
A. Evgeni Malkin.
