OK, here's the situation:
Two desktops about fifteen feet apart, a standard home wall between them. Both Dell; Computer #1 has WinXP, Computer #2 (the 'front' computer) has Win XP Media.
Home network - Lynksys broadband router and Qwest VDSL are connected to computer #1. #2 has the little Lynksys receiver.
Computer #1 has wireless keyboard and mouse, #2 only the mouse is wireless.
When both computers are turned on, keyboard and mouse actions on computer #1 turn up on computer #2. It happens frequently but not constantly if I'm not actively online, and it is constant if both are online. It is a unidirectional effect -- typing or actions on computer #2 do not affect computer #1.
If both are turned on and I'm working on #1 but #2 is idle, I'll go into the other room and see that it has called up a bunch of seemingly random programs, some of which I almost never use.
If there is a document open on #2, the typed material from #1 inserts itself -- in chunks, not perfect correspondence -- into the open document.
If someone is on the internet on both computers, mouse activities on #1 make the cursor jump all over the place on #2; typing on #1 turns up in the browser address bar or in email being composed.
So when someone wants to use computer #2, no one can use #1.
I have also experimented using a laptop on the same home network with built in wifi and Win XPMedia, and it seems immune, and has no effect on either computer.
I was initially assuming it was in the Lynksys, but then someone wondered if it could be the infra-red from the wireless keyboard/mouse.
