OK, here's the situation:

Two desktops about fifteen feet apart, a standard home wall between them. Both Dell; Computer #1 has WinXP, Computer #2 (the 'front' computer) has Win XP Media.

Home network - Lynksys broadband router and Qwest VDSL are connected to computer #1. #2 has the little Lynksys receiver.

Computer #1 has wireless keyboard and mouse, #2 only the mouse is wireless.

When both computers are turned on, keyboard and mouse actions on computer #1 turn up on computer #2. It happens frequently but not constantly if I'm not actively online, and it is constant if both are online. It is a unidirectional effect -- typing or actions on computer #2 do not affect computer #1.

If both are turned on and I'm working on #1 but #2 is idle, I'll go into the other room and see that it has called up a bunch of seemingly random programs, some of which I almost never use.

If there is a document open on #2, the typed material from #1 inserts itself -- in chunks, not perfect correspondence -- into the open document.

If someone is on the internet on both computers, mouse activities on #1 make the cursor jump all over the place on #2; typing on #1 turns up in the browser address bar or in email being composed.

So when someone wants to use computer #2, no one can use #1.

I have also experimented using a laptop on the same home network with built in wifi and Win XPMedia, and it seems immune, and has no effect on either computer.

I was initially assuming it was in the Lynksys, but then someone wondered if it could be the infra-red from the wireless keyboard/mouse.

Get rid of the wireless keyboards/mice.

:(

On both? I'd sure like to keep it on computer #1, but wouldn't mind getting rid of the wireless mouse on #2. Hmmm... wonder what would happen if I switched the wireless keyboard to #2... That might help pin it down, at least. A computer literate friend just said since infrared is pretty much line-of-sight, he doubts it's the wireless mouse/keyboard; he thinks it's some Lynksys interaction with active desktop or remote desktop protocols or something I didn't begin to grasp.

I don't know which wireless products you are using and if they are even ir... the Logitech Keyboard mouse combo I have does not have to be Line of sight to function at all. I have the receiver thing on the ground below my computer in the desk (closed door). I can go pretty far with the keyboard and it works fine too.

If I were you I would go back to a wired mouse on #2. If you still have the problem, disable IR if it is enabled on comp 2 and you should be set.

Yep, some KB combos use 900Mhz technology, not infared.

MESA! :thud:
I worked in an office where one guy had some of his wireless mouse & keyboard activity showing up on another computer 2 offices down the hall. No routers involved. He had to get rid of the wireless stuff, and problem solved.

OK, I'm convinced. The keyboard and mouse are all Dell. I'll try your suggestions.
