Gian Piero Gasperini on his Atalanta future: “I’m fine where I am”

Atalanta are in and around the Serie A title race but speculation has been rife that manager Gian Piero Gasperini will leave the club at the end of the season. The Italian manager has been one of the best managers in the world and he has been the biggest reason in the success that the club from Bergamo have enjoyed in recent times. Most notably, he won the Europa League title last season with the club.

When asked about his future at the club, he said, “I’m fine where I am, then like all things there is a beginning and an end: you know the beginning, you never know the end. But we live in the present: there are difficult matches, it’s a beautiful championship”.

He was also asked by Simone Bernabei (via TMW) whether he has thought about a statute of him being made in Bergamo, to which he said that he is happy to wait for the time being. Another interesting thing that Gasperini spoke of in the interview was the race for the Scudetto this season. He said that his set of players had been extraordinary so far and that it was important to perform well in the final stretch of the season. He also quipped that he hoped that Inter would focus their energy elsewhere (the Champions League).
