The San Francisco Giants got into the mix for Chase Utley, making a trade offer to the Philadelphia Phillies after the second baseman cleared waivers this week. Giants general manager Bobby Evans says in a text message there's ''nothing new today'' on any potential acquisition. The 36-year-old Utley has spent all 13 of his major league seasons with the Phillies and might opt to join a team where he can count on starting for the remainder of the season.
