SAN FRANCISCO–A pair of Giants second basemen are on the disabled list, but both players are making important strides as they work back from injuries. Starter Joe Panik had surgery on his fractured left thumb on April 30 and was initially expected to miss about six weeks. Panik began swinging a bat and fielding grounders Thursday and manager Bruce Bochy said Panik may be able to begin a rehab assignment before the end of the month. “Panik is swinging in the cage and it’s possible he could start a rehab when we get to Colorado or when we leave Colorado,” Bochy said. Panik’s replacement, Alen Hanson, hit four home runs after being called up from Triple-A Sacramento, but suffered a hamstring strain
