Gimenez lifts lid on Milan adaptation: “The goals will come. I’m sure they will”

Santiago Gimenez has admitted that his first few weeks at AC Milan were ‘very intense’, but believes that the goals will now start flowing.

Gimenez was Milan’s statement signing in the winter transfer window as he arrived in a deal worth over €30m from Feyenoord, to become the new starting centre-forward. He was a name that had been linked for some time, and the club hoped he would boost the Champions League hopes.

Things certainly started well for the Mexican as he scored three goals in his first few games, but the focus is to get Gimenez firing again given that he has not scored for Milan since February 18 against his old club Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Gimenez gave an interview to Corriere della Sera in which he spoke about a number of different topics including the fourth place target. As part of it, he was asked about the process of settling in at Milan.

“They were very intense. Especially off the pitch. I adapted to a new city, a new environment. Now I want to do what I came for. The goals will come. I’m sure they will. The important thing, though, is to win, as we did in the last two games,” he said.

“If Rafa Leao or Christian Pulisic or another team-mate scores, it’s the same. With Conceicao, we are working hard. We are not happy with the classification. But it’s not over yet. We believe in it. Changes are always a bit complicated.

“I’m still not at my level. But I’m growing, I’m getting to know the opponents, the teams. There is great pressure here. And it’s beautiful. I know I can do it. Also thanks to Diós’ hand.”
