Apr. 11—MISSOULA — Down 6-1 after four innings, Glacier had its comeback fall just short in an 8-7 softball loss at Missoula Sentinel Thursday.
Cazz Rankosky had two hits and two runs batted in for the Wolfpack (4-2), including an RBI single to put her team up 1-0 in the first.
Sydney Goldbar's two-run home run capped Sentinel's five-run third inning, and the Spartans (5-4) wouldn't trail again — though Karley Allen's RBI groundout narrowed the gap to 6-5 in the sixth inning, and two Sentinel errors helped Glacier (4-2) close the gap to 8-7 in the seventh.
After Olivia Gibbons' fly was misplayed for an error, it left two runners on with nobody out, but Piper Whitman retired the next three Glacier hitters to complete the win.
Whitman went the distance, allowing one walk and striking out five, and helped her cause with two doubles and two runs scored.
Three pitchers got in the circle for the Pack, and Ava Grady recorded six strikeouts in 2 2-3 innings. Grady also had an RBI double in the sixth.
Glacier returns home to face Missoula Hellgate on Saturday at 11 a.m.
