So, tough schedule, facing the drop zone, one of the best teams in the league march into St. James' Park. We're doomed, right? Wrong. We come out and are clearly the better team (this day). Martins misses a penalty, which would normally have gutted a team, but we're still clearly better than Arsenal. Then we lose our solid central defender Bassong. We're clearly now going to lose, right? Wrong. They score, we score. FU, Arsenal, we're going to come right back at you. We were clearly still in better form. Then we lose ANOTHER central defender. And, while he's trying to shake it off to get back into the game, BAM. Then BAM.

OMMFG!!! Really, God? TWO MFing central defenders injured in ONE match, while we're already injury riddled? Really? I mean, we're going to beat Arsenal, so we have to lose TWO MFing central defenders against one of the most prolific and most creative offensive teams in the league? WTF!

Well, that about does 'er. Looking at the rest of the schedule, we're probably screwed. It'll take guts and luck to stay up now, which is really gutting considering we damn well should have won this one the way we were playing. Two effing central defenders. Good lord.

Ha! I knew I had a bet on with someone. What were the details again? Though I'll likely lose that one...

It's just incredibly frustrating to know that you lost a game pretty much solely because of injuries. Being a Magpies fan is a lot like being a Cards fan, except Newcastle is a big club with lots of expectations and the Cards never really had any. Ugh.

steven taylor is a cheat...couldnt happen to a nicer person (not being injured, just being off the pitch)

and as for that elbow in the face, he is a thug as well!

A cheat? Not even close. He plays rough on occasion, but he is far from being a dirty player. At first I thought he'd be sent off for that elbow, or at least carded. On the replay, though, it's pretty clear that he simply didn't take Arshavin's height (or lack thereof) into account and was trying the standard tactic of holding him off. Even the announcers noticed that.

Not a stunt. Kinnear's not going to be ready, and they might move him upstairs as director. Hughton and Calderwood have done their best as interim co-managers, but this is an attempt to energize the club. It's not as if there's much risk involved here.

Really? You don't think much is at stake? What happens if they go down? Shearer will be known as the "savior" who failed... the club would lose millions... i would think there is a lot at stake here....

There's risk involved in going down, yes, but not much risk in appointing Shearer. If he keeps the team up, he's hailed as a Geordie hero again. If not, there's hardly going to be much blame heaped at his feet because the team was already reeling. He'll still have plenty of support to bring us back up. Now, though, I think we stay up.
