It hasn't made it past my mouth. It's a slightly softer texture at room temp than most dark chocolate bars -- sort of between truffle and candy-bar, total melt-in-your-mouth -- so not sure how it would work as 'chips.'

Plus it's pretty expensive to use for cooking when you could use unsweetened chocolate anyhow (in a sugar-free recipe). I can justify gobbling one square a night, of course.

At $3.50 for a small bag they're not cheap, but worth it!

Im fat. Pick and choose yer battles. Though I am curious how they make chocolate sweet. Is it a standard fake sugar? Or do they do something different Ive never heard of?

INGREDIENTS: SUGAR FREE DARK CHOCOLATES COATING (MALTITOL, CHOCOLATE PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, CHOCOLATE, COCOA BUTTER, MILKFAT, SOY LECITHIN, PGPR, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR), COCONUT OIL, NATURAL FLAVOR.

Some of us are not as lucky as you, skinny dude. :p

I'd rather not eat it at all.

There are times when I know why I am skinny. Like eating a snack bag of wheat thins for lunch today is one.

I've cut out all sugar products for 6 weeks to lose a few pounds. It's working.

dcr, I would normally agree with you, but this is much better than 90% of the regular dark chocolates I've had.

Why are you eating sugar free chocolate? Diabetes?

Yes, and for others whose docs tell them to avoid sugar.

My uncle was told not to have sugar after he was diagnosed with colon cancer (not sure why). My mom found him some sugar free buttercreams and, to him, they tasted fabulous.

Stupid freaking cancer killed him anyway. Cancer sucks and I hate it.

Was just curious. I could understand sugar free chocolate from a glucose standpoint, but from a losing weight standpoint, while it certainly makes sense to cut out needless sugars from your diet, chocolate is still PACKED with fat. Its like ordering a double cheeseburger and getting a diet coke with it. The sugar alcohol thing is interesting to me. I dont know a thing about it. Im gonna have to look it up.

That reminds me of a story.

A couple months ago, I was playing some poker with a brother and some friends. We get hungry. They decide to go to Jack in the Box

My friend proceeds to order 3 breakfast jacks, 3 chicken sandwiches, and 10 tacos. They ask him what he wants to drink, and he says "Diet Coke." Everyone in the room laughed their ass off.

For those of us who have high blood sugar or insulin resistance (pre-cursor to diabetes) yes, any carb will raise your sugar levels. You can eat reasonable amounts of fat and protein and your body will not store it as fat (as with excess carbs). IIRC, the body burns the alcohols so they don't affect your glucose levels.

For me it was just a question of sheer simple-mindedness, plus I do take glycemic load very seriously, having a friend who is a diabetes researcher.

I want to lose about 10 lbs, but don't want to have to spend time plotting what I can and can't eat. I don't eat a whole lot of fatty stuff anyhow -- maybe have something fried 1 time a month, use a couple TBSP butter in a week (well, there's all the homemade Israeli Labneh cheese, but it's only half-fat) -- don't normally eat a great deal of starchy carbs like bread or potatoes either -- maybe a serving once a day.

BUT I have let a fair amount of sugar sneak in. Frappucino here, couple slices of pound cake there, chunk of dark chocolate, piece of toast with Rose's Lime Marmalaid (speaking of OMG!)... So if I eliminate all sugar-sweetened stuff, it takes no thought, and I estimate it'll average out to 300-500 calories a day less than usual.

The sugar-free dark chocolate lets me feel totally indulged in the evening -- two squares is just 105 calories. I wish that feeling deprived burned calories, but all it does is make me lose self-discipline, so this is my little insurance policy.

It all works for me. Im not much of a dessert guy, but i have a true weakness for excellent ice creams and gelatos, and dark chocolate. I buy big ass hunks of high end dark chocolate (currently a 70% cacao Guyava (sp?) is my fave), and break off like 25-50g pieces and eat that every night after work. It goes real well with bourbon on the rocks!

So does bacon. Family tradition to dip the bacon off the Turkey in Bourbon on Thanksgiving.

I think we really do it because it makes all of the women roll their eyes. :D
