Diamondbacks rookie first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is a video junkie. He's often hunched over a computer screen, studying the tendencies of the pitcher he'll face that day.

"He studies his butt off," veteran infielder Geoff Blum said. "Along with that talent, he has a desire to get better. I think that's one of the things that will help him stay here."

There is one clip Goldschmidt refuses to watch, though.

Nice article Jon. Thx for posting.

Baseball is a crazy game. I really liked Nady. He was playing well and he was a 1st baseman that finally looked like they were gonna pan out for us. When he got injured I was very bummed out.

Look at us now, if he hadn't gone down we probably would have never gotten to see this kid get so much playing time and blossom in the majors.

Funny how life works sometimes.

Go Dbacks!

Baseball, more than any other sport, depends on one person's misfortune to catipult another to stardom. Since the players can't reenter the game after leaving, there is less of an option to mix-and-match veterans with up-and-comers. You can't platoon a first baseman the same way you can an NFL running back, for example.

So while Nady's injury was so sad, it speaks to the magic of this game that it paves the way for the next big star on this team.
