Gonzo is the lone representative from the Diamondbacks for this year's All-Star game in Detroit.

Shea Hillenbrand made the All-Star game and Derek Jeter did not. Jeter does still have a chance if he gets voted by the fans for the last man to make it.

That one kind of came out of leftfield. :D

Good for him, but I am not sure he was the deserving one, but how many has he gone to now as a D-Back, 4 or 5, I know he is not a hall of famer, but I think Gonzo's number should be reitred when he does because Randy aside he to me has been the face of this team since he has been here. Just my thought on that.

although the guy has fallen off in recent years, he is still a good statesman for the d-backs, a good community guy and someone the fans can recongize as the face of the organization

with that said, it would be a real shame if webb doesn't make it in ... he's having a good year and his struggles last year were a bit overblown

I had originally thought that Gonzo would have declined the invite since he's still grieving over the recent loss of his step-father, however, then I realized that it might be the perfect setting for him since Detroit is where his triplets were born.... So... the pleasant memories of lives being created over the agonizing reality of a loved ones life ending is the best temporal remedy....

I guess also LaRussa extended the invite to appease/make ammends for the comments he made regarding Gonzo in his book....Although Gonzo said all was forgiven, perhaps this made LaRussa feel better and would lead to any closure in that regard.... And since both are Tampa natives, that would make sense for LaRussa to do Gonzo that favor as well....

I must be relieved that it wasnt Webb (even though I would consider him somewhat more deserving based on this year's performance) since he can relax for a wk rather than add more wear/tear to his arm......

Anyways.. I must applaud and wish Gonzo CONGRATS on being the Dbacks lone '05 All-Star representative......
